Hulbert is the second boy at Champlin Park High School to have participated on a girls' team. Last year, Champlin won the "girls'" state championship softball tournament due to the performance of a boy on the pitching mound. Hulbert's performance has certainly not been as impressive, even against female opponents, but as these competitions often include over 100 female athletes, this still means hundreds of girls have been pushed down a position due to his presence even if he is not taking a medal.
