Pensioners are by far our wealthiest demographic as a nation. Please explain why 2.3 million pensioners living in millionaire households should receive £300 every Christmas on top of £13k a year of free money. 40% of UK children live in poverty.
Sharon Graham@UniteSharon

Unite has always been clear that any and all cuts to winter fuel are simply picking the pockets of pensioners while the richest in society keep getting wealthier. The decision should be fully reversed. Money should be found by introducing a #WealthTax. channel4.com/news/pm-says-m…

@NextGenTories Less than 15% of the entire pub wage bill is NICs, what on earth are you talking about

Your pint now costs £8. About 15% is NICs. That’s about this much of a pint, straight into HMRC. Time for change…

Your friend Sara who earns 20k more than you, but has a longer commute, works longer hours and sees her kids less? She's in a similar position. Dave, who earns 8k less than you but is on benefits and doesn't work at all? Or Jill, who lives in a house her parents bought for her?

It's more helpful to consider the split between the asset class - those with enough net wealth to live the rest of their lives not working - and the benefit and working classes. Those are the 3 real divides in terms of effort vs lifestyle lived.

Since 1997 no Chancellor has exercised their right to drink whilst delivering the budget. Our last 2 PMs have been teetotalers (and vegetarians!). Not coincidentally our politicians have gotten worse not better

@BellaWallerstei The legislation and the way it was introduced were both absolutely terrible. I'm in favour of the freedom to choose how and when we die, but Labour are clearly the wrong party for this.

Hugely disappointing assisted dying bill has failed to become law. Too many terminally ill people are forced to endure their final days in pain. I’ve seen first-hand how cruel that can be. We all deserve the right to choose how and when we die. The law should recognise that

@JamesFrith I voted for you at the last election because you promised to help working families - and now I'm being evicted because of the RRA, my wage growth is restricted because rises in the minimum wage exceed economic growth, and my taxes are going up. Attacking reform fixes nothing.

@lukerobertblack @kimleadbeater Even as someone cautiously in favour of assisted dying, this is a ridiculous comparison and I can't support the way this bill is being introduced

.@kimleadbeater I am begging you to please stop this vile comparison. Me getting married to my fiancé is quite ostensibly *nothing* like assisted suicide. You’re pushing people who should be sympathetic to this bill further and further into full-blown critics.
Genevieve Holl-Allen@genevieve_holl

Kim Leadbeater MP has just likened the legalisation of assisted dying to legalising gay marriage On Sky News: 'It is a choice, it's a bit like gay marriage isn't it? Marry who you want to marry, love who you want to love. It's nothing to do with anybody else'

@mr_james_c I like to think of the UK as enjoying petty authoritarianism; instant fines for fairly normal behaviour, taxes for consuming sugar, but no serious consideration for actual crimes

@mr_james_c I told you before, find me a flagship phone with likely 4 year support that has this. Sometimes you just need to force companies to do stuff that is best for everyone

@poe_collector I run a data platform for an engineering programme, and we use it for all kinds of stuff - one of our field engineers tells me he uses it to create podcasts discussing engineering design documents, so he can listen while he drives.

How do you feel about AI as it exists today, in its current state? Remove all the speculation about the future and think about your own interactions with AI and the anecdotes you’ve heard up until now. For me, it’s starting to border on scam territory in terms of reputation.

@poe_collector I'd like to see that, if you can send me any! If you like code doing insane shit, I highly recommend looking at prize winning IOCCC entries, which include emulating an 8086 machine using just 4043 bytes of code.

@poe_collector I think it's going to be absolutely brilliant for innovation. Up to now, starting a new business has a really expensive barrier for setting up digital infrastructure. With AI a primitive setup can be built with relative ease, and this is going to help so many more ideas happen.

The next @Conservatives government must cut taxes by reducing the size of the civil service and getting people off welfare. It must support businesses by abolishing business rates for hospitality and high street businesses And we get the country building again ⬇️
James Wright@JPBWFarm

Whilst Westminster eats a Prime Minister who failed to deliver any change. Over 1 in 5 are economically inactive. Public sector wages are growing 2% faster than the private sector. Welfare soaring. We cannot go on like this. We are a poor country and we don’t even realise it.
