Bury North is my family’s home town I want for your family everything I want for mine Across our town we play by the rules to make ends meet We know its tough We know many more have it even tougher Our country is going backwards After 14 years of this Tory government, what works? What’s got better? Families are struggling with the cost of living crisis Ordinary working people, hammered with the highest taxes in 80 years Public Services have become Public Struggles The NHS is in crisis, waiting times are up, getting a GP appointment gets harder People are hard up, fed up but we mustn’t give up My faith in our town remains We need an MP that unites One that champions you and our town More money in your pocket Public services back on their feet, fit for the future Our schools need investment, and a plan for every child Children with special educational needs need specialism and real educational care Bury businesses need backing not burdening, whether they’re start up or scale-up The green jobs of the future must come to Bury first We must take back our streets from anti-social behaviour and crime Labour has changed and is ready to change Britain To make everyday life better for everyone To raise the floor on which we all stand You know I am on your side Together, we: Saved the walk-in centre; Funded our Hospice; Got the country behind saving Bury FC I’ve secured life-saving drugs for Bury families on the NHS; Championed local jobs; And I’m still fighting the inequalities in education Let’s move forward after these damaging Tory years Bury and Britain needs change, not more of the same It’s a clear choice between a changed Labour Party and the same old Tories We can build a better future It’s time for a fresh start Bury and Britain needs change I am change Bury North can trust And I am determined to deliver it, so that everyone of us can thrive. #ChangeYouCanTrust

It is an enormous privilege to have been appointed by the Prime Minister to serve as Minister for Health at the Department of Health and Social Care. As the MP for Bury North, I’ve seen both the very best of our NHS and social care, and the challenges they face. I’ve campaigned alongside local people to reduce waiting times, tackle the health inequalities that still exist between our communities, protect local services including our walk-in centre, and champion the extraordinary work of our hospices and those providing end of life care. Those experiences have shaped my understanding of what matters most. In government, I’ve also had the opportunity to lead work on digital public services and the responsible adoption of technology across government. I believe there is a huge opportunity to apply that experience to health and care: making services simpler to access, giving staff better tools, embracing AI responsibly, and designing services around patients rather than institutions. Health is about far more than hospitals. It is about prevention as well as treatment, social care alongside the NHS, supporting those with specialist and often overlooked conditions, and ensuring that where you live should never determine the care you receive. I’m under no illusion about the scale of the challenge ahead. But I also know what our NHS, our care workforce, our volunteers and our communities achieve every day, often in the most difficult circumstances. I’m grateful to the Prime Minister and to the Secretary of State, Rt Hon. Yvette Cooper MP, for this opportunity to serve. I look forward to working with colleagues across government, the NHS, local government, charities, clinicians and patients to build a healthier, fairer Britain. As ever, the people of Bury North remain at the heart of everything I do. They have entrusted me to represent them, and I will continue to be their voice while serving in government. Now, it’s time to get to work.

I’m giving thousands of pubs, clubs and music venues a 20% cut in business rates. I won’t stand by while these cherished local spaces disappear, replaced by boarded-up windows and ‘For Sale’ signs. They’re the heart of our communities and it’s time we backed them.

The Prime Minister, @andyburnham, today asked me to attend Cabinet as Minister for AI, a sign of his deep commitment to AI's importance. AI is likely the most significant technology in human history. Its impact will dwarf other things. The best case for it is compelling beyond our dreams: a reindustrialised Britain, stronger national security, public services transformed for the better. The risks, too, are real: it is right that the British public shares those worries, for jobs, for the pace of change. The central fact is that it is happening. Nations have a narrow window to decide whether they shape AI or get shaped by it. Britain is in that window right now. While that window is still open, I will act with pace, I will act with ambition, and I will focus relentlessly on securing British influence in shaping AI. I will also bring to this job the place I represent - a constituency in Wales, a nation with industry and ambition at its heart, a proud history of punching above its weight on the global stage. A nation which welcomed a 12-year old and his family, gave us the best chance at opportunity, put me in Parliament as Wales' first ethnic minority MP, and now affords me the chance to make a mark in Cabinet.
