Cars on our roads are getting way bigger. It’s not because consumers demand tanks – there are 3 federal incentives that have pushed Americans to buy megatrucks and automakers to stop making anything else. From @transalt's #VisionZeroCities Journal 🧵👇 medium.com/vision-zero-ci…

How many bus stops are blocked by parked cars and deliveries at any given moment? I looked at every bus stop in Manhattan on street view to produce an estimate. It turns out it's 19% – practically 1 in 5. open.substack.com/pub/patrickcle…

my favorite time of year: getting to put together the map of the hellish drivers of NYC! this year with a bonus report about how they're mostly driving new luxury cars!
Transportation Alternatives@TransAlt

NEW: Last year, the top 10 super speeders covered such an expansive swath of New York City with their reckless driving that more than 2.5 million New Yorkers live within a 5-minute walk of an intersection that just these 10 drivers were caught blasting through.

The solution is simple: pass my bill to abolish placards. When a city worker is driving a city vehicle on city business - there should be relaxed parking policies. But why should city workers be allowed to park their personal vehicles illegally? It’s absurd.
Jeff Coltin@JCColtin

Somebody with an NYPD placard illegally parked a personal car right by the Brooklyn Bridge. The bus hit the car trying to get around it, now traffic is backed up for blocks and blocks and several express buses full of people can’t get to the FDR.

Surprise! The Jeff Bezos-owned Washington Post is against my 5% billionaire wealth tax. I wonder why? If enacted, Bezos would owe $12 billion in taxes, and an average family of 4 would receive a $12,000 direct payment. Poor Jeff would be left with just $224 billion to survive.

NYC public hospital patient data is being shared with Palantir, the same company that identifies potential ICE targets for the Trump admin. Is going to the hospital increasing someone’s deportation risk? We should demand the Mayor sever the city’s ties to Palantir immediately.

In January, a family of four taking the subway into Manhattan will cost $24 round-trip.

.@GovKathyHochul in Queens says she has no plans to raise the congestion pricing base fare for passenger cars from $9 to $15 because it would be a lot for families and small biz. (And she’s up for reelection).

Maria Sumba and Carmen Larino each lost a daughter to a traffic crash. Now, they're sharing their stories about why New York City needs universal daylighting. @NYCSpeakerAdams must bring Intro 1138 to a vote this session, to finally protect New Yorkers at every intersection.

Having now read the decision, two things are clear 1) the Judge has made significant factual and legal errors and 2) She has chosen to do what she acknowledges is not proper for her to do - substitute her judgment on street design and safety for @NYC_DOT's 🧵
Law Office of Peter W. Beadle - BeadleLaw@BeadleLaw

This is a ridiculous decision and I expect the City to Appeal. How redesigning 31st Street was "arbitrary and capricious", a very difficult standard to meet, when removing the Bedford Ave potected bike lane, which made the street more dangerous, wasn't is beyond me.

Cristian Vazquez is the seventh person on a bike to be killed by dooring this year in New York City. He was riding an electric Citi Bike, capped at 15 mph. @NYCMayor Adams' e-bike speed limit didn't save his life. A protected bike lane might have. Where was he supposed to ride?

Why should New Yorkers on bikes be harassed, ticketed, or given criminal summonses for traveling 16 mph, when the driver of a vehicle that weighs 80x as much doesn't even receive a ticket for traveling 35 mph? This is a nonsensical, backward policy — not any real solution.
Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani@NYCMayor

Starting TODAY, a new 15 MPH speed limit is in effect for e-bikes! More and more New Yorkers are using them, and we’re grateful to @NYC_DOT for their efforts to keep our streets safe for everyone. Ride safe, everyone!

46 states already require daylighting to keep intersections safe. New York State does, too — but New York City exempts itself. It’s time to close that loophole. @CMJulieWon's Intro 1138 would allow pedestrians and drivers to clearly see each other at intersections.

Wild how the grumps are able to shift the narrative to being "robbed of the Great Highway" when it's literally more accessible than ever. nytimes.com/2025/09/17/us/…
