Somewhere along the line, many church leaders convinced themselves that the best way to honor and serve women is to capitulate to feminism in various and sundry ways. This includes the ordination of women or, in those bodies with rules against that, elevating them to some quasi-ecclesiastical office. Thus, they casuistically avoid censure by giving the substance of authority without the form.
This capitulation is branded as "progress," and the applause of those who've already bought the egalitarian lie is presented as the proof in the missional pudding.
In all this, I'm reminded of this quote from Lewis' Mere Christianity, "We all want progress. But progress means getting nearer to the place where you want to be. And if you have taken a wrong turning then to go forward does not get you any nearer. If you are on the wrong road progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road and in that case the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive man."
The place we want to be is the one where we get to present every man and every woman mature in Christ. We won't get there by ignoring or blurring the lines that God has drawn. Rather, we get there by rejoicing in them as His good and perfect design.
Brothers in the #PCAGA, let's hold one another accountable to what we say we believe—not because we're spoiling for a fight—but because we believe that God's way is the best way to honor and serve women... and everyone else, for that matter.
