Earlier this week, Canada welcomed His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V to Canada for his first official visit. His Highness, known as Mawlana Hazar Imam, is the 50th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims. I was honoured to join an exclusive group of Parliamentarians at a reception hosted by His Highness at the Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat in Ottawa. In his address to the delegates, he spoke of the decades-long partnership between Canada and the Ismaili Imamat. In fact, earlier in the day, Prime Minister Carney and Hazar Imam released a joint declaration outlining new partnerships in housing, economic development and other areas of mutual interest. 🍁 Au début de la semaine, le Canada a accueilli Son Altesse le prince Rahim Aga Khan V à l'occasion de sa première visite officielle. Son Altesse, connue sous le nom de Mawlana Hazar Imam, est le 50e imam héréditaire des musulmans chiites ismaéliens. J'ai eu l'honneur de me joindre à un groupe restreint de parlementaires lors d'une réception organisée par Son Altesse à la Délégation de l'Imamat ismaélien à Ottawa. Dans son allocution aux délégués, il a évoqué le partenariat de plusieurs décennies entre le Canada et l'Imamat ismaélien. D’ailleurs, plus tôt dans la journée, le Premier ministre Carney et Hazar Imam ont publié une déclaration commune décrivant de nouveaux partenariats dans les domaines du logement, du développement économique et d’autres domaines d’intérêt mutuel.

His Highness the Aga Khan has committed $100 million over the next five years to combat malnutrition, joining global philanthropists, governments and development partners in solidarity with the ‘11.5: Edge of Life’ campaign, organised by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), which aims to save over 35 million children from preventable hunger and malnutrition. Prince Aly Muhammad sent a video message on the occasion. His Highness the Aga Khan is honoured to join His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, alongside philanthropists, international organisations, and business leaders, in addressing one of the world’s most urgent development challenges. The commitment marks a significant expansion of the Aga Khan Development Network’s (AKDN) long-standing work to improve nutrition and food systems across Asia and Africa. In the first year of his Imamat, His Highness has more than doubled AKDN’s financial commitment to nutrition, building on existing work in Africa and approving the expansion of the Central Asia Stunting Initiative in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria and Tajikistan. Together with these ongoing programmes, AKDN will devote approximately $100 million over the next five years to efforts aimed at preventing malnutrition and strengthening nutrition systems in vulnerable communities. “Malnutrition remains one of the greatest barriers to human development, undermining the health, potential, and dignity of millions of children and families. Addressing this challenge requires sustained commitment and collective action across sectors and societies. I am honoured to join partners around the world in supporting efforts to ensure every child has the opportunity to grow, thrive and contribute to their communities,” His Highness said in a statement.
