@SamMearns @RALee85 @squatsons I mean yeah, realistically, 50k is too high, better trust OSINT thank government sources. To be fair, the numbers *did* go up as of recent, and 2-1 WIA-KIA should be expected, so I could so 30k total casualties.

@RALee85 @squatsons That’s 7,000 a month on average. That’s a far cry away from the 50,000 Ukraine is saying it’s inflicting. Even if there’s a decent portion of WIA… Ukraines numbers are ridiculously big.

@lisaabramowicz1 Note: these companies together form over a third of the S&P's weighting. It's not really that shocking, at that point, if you take into account that some other companies (banks, etc...) were down.

@hrh_elliot I mean, that's a little misleading. Obviously Airbus isn't the only employer for the production of the A220, in Quebec. You can't *only* count Airbus employees. Probably at least ~10k indirect jobs that can be directly and explicitly linked to A220 production, as well.

But here is what they omitted to mention:
The A220 only exist because Bombardier built the model known as the CSeries...
- In 2015, the Québec government invested roughly US$1 billion (about CAD$1.3B) into Bombardier’s struggling CSeries jet program to prevent its collapse and protect aerospace jobs in Québec.
- The program suffered from major cost overruns, delays, weak sales, and trade disputes with Boeing in the U.S.
- In 2018, Bombardier handed majority control of the CSeries program to Airbus for $1, rebranding it as the Airbus A220 (yes... $1)
- By 2021, Québec’s original investment had been officially valued at $0 in provincial financial statements
- Québec later reinjected even more money (2022 and 2024) to maintain its 25% stake in the Airbus A220 partnership
- In 2025, Québec wrote down another $400 million tied to the A220 investment, acknowledging it may not recover a large portion of taxpayer funds.
Total invested by Quebec = $1.7 BILLION
Total jobs saved... 4,600
or $369,565/Jobs
This doesn't deserve a victory lap

The current oil shortage won't affect it much either, because this is a contract over the next decade or so regardless.

However, it's a fairly successful program now - the planes are successful, well-liked, and Airbus pays Canadians over 500 million in salaries yearly

@JJ_McCullough Aside from gas prices, which obviously has a far reaching impact, I haven't seen much political fallout. The only time I see updates on it are from Trump himself, the media has moved on.
Given the economy was already flailing here, gas prices suck, but so does everything.
