🟨🟦 WEEK 9 READ- biorxiv.org/content/10.110… I have a phobia for animals but the diseases associated with many are the reasons I have no pets. It was great to refresh my knowledge on Toxoplasmosis Gondii, moreover this is our second time to choose a publication associated with the Wistar rats. Salient points from week 9; 1. Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) is a protozoan parasite that reside majorly in the brain of its intermediate host. 2. It is a ubiquitous protozoan parasite which is acquired through ingestion of oocysts contaminated in food, water and vegetables. 3. Prolong T. gondii infection results into a variety of behavioural deficits in rodents including altered locomotor activity, learning and memory impairment. 4. Brain sections involved in memory retention, movement of the limbs, cognitive performance were found with T. gondii tissue cysts, including the corpus callosum. In conclusion, cognitive defects are seen in T. Gondii and more investments are needed on animal health. @pshan_alliance @WHONigeria @WHO @AfricaCDC @CDCgov @UnescoMilBR @MBRF_Knowledge.global @Misk_Global @mbrf_news @WHONigeria @who.fides @UNESCO @CDCGlobal @bbchealth @firstecosystem #Gondii #TGondii #NTDs
