🟦🟨 FIRST RESEARCH RAPPORTEURS PROGRAM (RRP). Exactly, a month ago, we launched the first session of the Research Rapporteurs Program Training Workshop, we are honored to train individuals globally, majority from the global south. Special gratitude to our speakers, we had a very balanced panel and we are privileged to learn from the expertise of our speakers. This program is the first globally to approach scientific publications uniquely, amplifying the impact of FIRST to make research understandable for laymen thereby contributing to the global agendas of health. 🟨🟦 WEEK 9 READ- biorxiv.org/content/10.110… I have a phobia for animals but the diseases associated with many are the reasons I have no pets. It was great to refresh my knowledge on Toxoplasmosis Gondii, moreover this is our second time to choose a publication associated with the Wistar rats. Salient points from week 9; 1. Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) is a protozoan parasite that reside majorly in the brain of its intermediate host. 2. It is a ubiquitous protozoan parasite which is acquired through ingestion of oocysts contaminated in food, water and vegetables. 3. Prolong T. gondii infection results into a variety of behavioural deficits in rodents including altered locomotor activity, learning and memory impairment. 4. Brain sections involved in memory retention, movement of the limbs, cognitive performance were found with T. gondii tissue cysts, including the corpus callosum. In conclusion, cognitive defects are seen in T. 🟨🟦 GUEST RESEARCHER PROFILE- DR. NASIRU WANA. Dr. Mohammed Nasiru Wana, born and raised up in Gombe, Gombe State. Immediately after his NYSC in Kebbi State I was employed as Graduate Assistant by Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Univeristy, Bauchi. Later on he enrolled for his Masters degree in the same university in Applied Parasitology and graduated 2015. In 2017 he was at Universiti Putra Malaysia for his doctoral degree in Medical Parasitology. In search for more challenges, better knowledge and skills set, he joined Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare in Bauchi State. Currently, he is the pioneer Head of Microbiology. To give back to the community he founded a charitable organisation called End Neglected Tropical Diseases Initiative and commenced activities early this year in Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Jigawa and Kano State.
