We all know that Iran is not going to agree to a final deal that looks anything like what they’ve told Vance they will agree to
Their play will be to stick to 99% of their current public red lines, & blame Israeli recalcitrance for why the flexibility they promised disappeared
They will use that argument to try persuade the Trump admin to agree to abandon its own positions and accept theirs. The admin will be so frustrated with Israeli pigheadedness it may well agree
This play worked to deliver a MoU that is much worse than it had to be and the Israelis seem to determined to roll the dice again

Netanyahu's strategy of all but open partisanship in American politics might be semi-defensible if the Republicans were a normal party, but not when they're a personality cult built around Trump. The latter can never be counted on under any circumstances, as he should have known.

As with everything he does, there is no institutional calculus. The possibility that Israel might be left weaker because of his actions never enters his megalomaniacal mind. He sees himself and the state as one and the same. The sooner he is gone, the better. Then the work of repair can begin.
