Yglesias and Klein largely bequeathed a culture of progressive managerial dysfunction, failed predictions and endless self-referential groupthink while Bari managed to expose the utter vacuity and lazy groupthink of the mainstream media, while making millions to boot. That must rankle. Good

I celebrate all media business success stories but I think once you are running television network news programming on behalf of a regime-aligned billionaire as part of a deal to get a merger approved, you need to leave the “our brand is independent thinking” stuff aside.

The Bundist dream? Really? Do these people live in a Yiddish-speaking, culturally autonomous Jewish society with its own schools, press, unions and communal institutions? Because that was the actual Bundist vision. It certainly wasn’t becoming English-speaking progressives in Brooklyn with minimal knowledge about Jewish culture posting slogans on social media, retard

Man, she must really hate him. Why else run to the press to throw your husband under the bus like this?
CBS Sunday Morning 🌞@CBSSunday

Former first lady @DrBiden said she was “frightened” by her husband Joe Biden’s performance at the 2024 presidential debate. “As I watched it, I thought, ‘Oh, my God, he’s having a stroke.’ And it scared me to death,” Biden told CBS News Sunday Morning’s Rita Braver in an interview airing this Sunday. cbsnews.com/news/jill-bide…

@strxwmxn They think it’s the minimal price they must pay to remain somewhat credible “heterodox” liberals with an audience that is ever more hostile to Israel. Their tacit acceptance of this hostility is what prevents complete cancellation

What’s most frustrating about usually reasonable liberals like Matt Yglesias and Jesse Singal is that while they recognize the multi-pronged surge of antisemitism since October 7, they largely ignore the dynamics of the information war. 1. Criticism of Israel’s conduct — which is always welcome — has become a Trojan horse for overt and explicit antisemitism. 2, That antisemitism fuels and rationalizes extreme anti-Israel violence, which only further entrenches Israel’s security state. People have largely forgotten the Second Intifada, and now they’re already forgetting October 7. 3. There is a huge perverse incentive structure at play: the more Israel can be portrayed as uniquely monstrous, genocidal, or Nazi-like, the more attention, activism, and international pressure it gets. This incentivizes exaggeration and emotional manipulation, especially around the most lurid claims. 4. The reflex to throat-clear and to-be-sure about the plight of the Palestinians in response to every unambiguously antisemitic attack — even when it has nothing to do with Israel — only reinforces the idea that antisemitism can be understood and contextualized. The suspension of skepticism and critical analysis around these dynamics by nuanced heterodox thinkers is bizarre and deeply disappointing.
Matthew Yglesias@mattyglesias

@BriannaWu There are tons of unhinged anti-Israel takes out there but it’s clearly the case that the presence of millions of Palestinians living under Israeli rule is a major factor in external perceptions of the Jewish state — paranoia is not helpful.

So is it two genocides for the price of one now? Not content with cheapening the language about a very specific criminal category and expanding it to cover warfare in general, these grifters now include Lebanon, where Hezbollah led the country into war on behalf of the Shiite imperial patron? Get a fucking clue

I don't care what political party you represent, Tory, Labour, Green, Lib Dem, Reform. I was taught, quite rightly, that the Holocaust was humanity's greatest crime. I did Holocaust Studies as part of my History/ Politics degree at Uni of Bham with the late great Professor Grenville, himself a Jewish refugee who escaped the terror of Nazi Germany as a kid. If you are not calling out the current genocide we are painfully witnessing in Gaza and Lebanon, a live streamed and documented genocide then you are dead to me. Labour, Green, Reform... Dont care. Start with a clear moral position on that before you tell me about how you will tax me and what your policies on education are or the environment etc or what you plan to do with the 20 mile an hour speed limit. I dont give a shit. Start with something we were taught would never happen again because of silent complicity. Tell me how you feel about children being shot in the head for fun or the raping of prisoners or the 100s of 1000s of dead and missing. Tell me about how you filter the unimaginable horror, the insane bombing and murder, day after day, week after week, months and now years. Dont just have an opinion. Show me that you're actually human and everything else (after a live streamed and documented geneocide that slowly destroys my own sense of humanity on a daily basis) will follow that.

Sánchez may still pull this one off. His coalition partners won’t force him out, and short of an internal coup, he may manage to finish the term. Given how deep everyone in his party seems to be in the dirt, it’s unlikely they’ll be the ones to push him into elections

Where did Blair say Britain was succeeding? In fact who exactly are these people who are saying we’re succeeding? They seem to exist exclusively in the Treasury, people who are keen to destroy the very jobs those who desperately need their start rely on.

Labour won’t win Britain’s future by fighting old wars or recycling old orthodoxies. Nor will it do so through technocratic detachment from the lives people actually live. The answers must be new, but they must also be Labour. Response to Tony Blair 👇🏻 theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

The primary reason for the "acclaim" given to Peter Beinart, Dave Smith, Hannah Einbeinder, et. al.: if Jews call for the end of the "Zionist project" (as if it was a science experiment and not an independent nation of millions) it operates as a Kosher certification for non-Jews to do the same without being accused of antisemitism

One wonders whether the Financial Times and The New York Times will continue treating Pedro Sánchez as Europe’s enlightened poster boy now that corruption probes are engulfing not just his circle, but a former Socialist prime minister as well. Or does Sánchez still get an automatic free pass so long as he keeps delivering the approved anti-Israel / pro Iran lines?
