De relevantie voor Nederland is duidelijk. Ook Nederlandse universiteiten werken immers samen met internationale partijen. Transparantie over de herkomst van middelen, voorwaarden en beïnvloeding is essentieel voor academische onafhankelijkheid. Een inventarisatie van buitenlandse geldstromen, contractuele afspraken en governance-structuren kan helderheid geven. Het ligt daarom voor de hand om grondig te onderzoeken hoe de geldstromen naar Nederlandse universiteiten lopen. Een dergelijk onderzoek is onmisbaar voor kennisveiligheid, bescherming van academische vrijheid én nieuw vertrouwen in het hoger onderwijs.
