#Birmanie : Enfin libre !

A striking interview from @RadioFreeAsia on possible forced labor and repression in Xinjiang/East Turkistan. Beijing has spent years trying to control the narrative, but courageous witnesses keep bringing facts to light. Their work matters. rfa.org/mandarin/zheng…

I worked for @RadioFreeAsia’s Uyghur Service and know what total information control looks like. RFA Uyghur Service bravely exposed the camps before the world believed they existed, documented the surveillance state, and traced forced labor into global supply chains—reporting that contributed to the U.S. genocide determination and the passage of the UFLPA. The Uyghur Service was also the first to uncover and report on my sister Dr. Gulshan Abbas’s unjust sentencing—information that would otherwise have remained buried under the regime’s enforced silence. Last May, RFA shut down the Uyghur Service. Since then, the region has become a black hole, with Beijing committing atrocities behind a wall of silence. Some services have resumed, but the Uyghur Service remains limited to under 15 minutes a week—the only independent Uyghur-language news source in the world. The CCP thrives in darkness. That’s why full restoration of the Uyghur Service is very important. Thank you @bayfang & @heresrohit.

First, China sentences Jimmy Lai to die in prison for committing journalism. Now it prosecutes the aging father of Anna Kwok to punish her for dissent. This is Xi’s dictatorship. nytimes.com/2026/02/10/wor… via @NYTimes

🚨#JimmyLai has been sentenced for 20 years.  @CECCgov Chairs condemn the sentence saying “This is not justice. It is the weaponization of the courts to punish speech.”   Read the full statement➡️bit.ly/4rJ0UBq

@pollyinthecity @amnestyusa Sad news. T.Kumar was one the one of the first people I met after joining @RadioFreeAsia, while waiting in line for a Capitol Hill human rights hearing. I was very lucky to know him from then on. He also made sure @amnesty advocated for RFA’s jailed journalists. He is missed.

December 8 is Jimmy Lai’s birthday, but we cannot celebrate while he remains unjustly imprisoned. @CECCGov stands with those—like Jimmy—who bravely speak the truth during Hong Kong’s darkest moments. #JimmyLai should be freed to celebrate his 78th🎂with his family. @SupportJimmyLai Learn more about Jimmy Lai🔗bit.ly/48m8F9v #FreeJimmyLai

Great to see strong @USCC_GOV for RFA in its Annual Report to Congress. It’s so important that the USG has the right tools to counter the CCP’s malign influence. This is definitely one of them. uscc.gov/sites/default/…

On this Veterans Day, I’m thinking of our dear son Cullen, a U.S. Marine Corps first lieutenant whose dedication to service continues to light our way. Today we honor him, and all who’ve served our nation.

Many RFA journalists put themselves at risk to report for audiences who lack access to trustworthy news. As we pause our editorial operations today, we re-present stories from those journalists, recorded in March, about the meaning of their work. rfa.org/english/world/…

The announcement that Radio Free Asia will cease all programming marks a sobering milestone in the ongoing erosion of America’s international broadcasting institutions. Its closure undermines U.S. national interests across Asia and strikes a blow to press freedom in some of the world’s most tightly controlled information environments This latest development follows the termination of Voice of America broadcasts. That decision signaled a seismic shift in the global posture of the United States. VOA was one of the few institutions that consistently bridged the gap between American ideals and global realities. It served as a trusted source of news and information, an enduring voice for democratic values, a counterweight to state-controlled narratives, and a symbol of the nation’s commitment to truth, press freedom, transparency, and pluralism. Its silencing represents a retreat from the moral high ground the United States long claimed and the loss of one of its most effective instruments of soft power. Despite the great harm already done, it is still possible for Congress to halt the dismantling of VOA. Lawmakers have the authority and the obligation to renew funding and defend this vital institution that has long served as America’s voice to the world. Republican members of Congress, in particular, have historically championed international broadcasting and American leadership abroad. Their failure to act now is deeply regrettable. They should rise to the occasion and preserve a strategic asset that has consistently served U.S. national interests, promoted foreign policy objectives, and told America’s story with unwavering clarity, credibility, and conviction. nytimes.com/2025/10/29/us/…
