Journalists across the world are one family. They are under professional duty and obligation to speak for the rights of their colleagues especially when they are being punished for speaking the truth. Journalists keep attending events around the world and they are trained to listen to all kinds of views and opinions. Their questions are most of the time in public domain and if they chose not to ask any at the right time then they should not be disturbed by others asking some.

آخری بار صومالئ قزاقوں نے جب اس طرح پاکستانیوں کو یرغمال بنایا تھا اس وقت گورنر سندھ جناب ڈاکٹر عشرت العباد نے انصار برنی اور مخیر حضرات کے ساتھ مل کر انتھک کوششوں سے تمام پاکستانیوں کو ازاد کرایا تھا
اب دیکھنا ہے کہ ہمارے موجودہ گورنر اس صورتحال میں کتنے کارآمد ثابت ہوتے ہیں!

Shall we call it a decentralized foreign policy - harder to pressure, harder to isolate, harder to predict?

صحافت زمہ داری ہے، ہتھیار نہیں
دنیا کی نظریں پاکستان پر تھیں، ایک بڑے عالمی ایونٹ کی میزبانی، غیر ملکی مہمانوں کا ہجوم، اور ہر طرف سے پاکستانی ڈپلومیسی کی تعریف, وہ غیر ملکی صحافی جو شاید پاکستان کے بارے میں کچھ اور سوچ کر آئے تھے، یہاں کی مہمان نوازی اور گرم جوشی دیکھ کر حیران رہ گئے۔ یہ وہ لمحہ تھا جب پاکستان کا نام عزت سے لیا جا رہا تھا۔
اور ٹھیک اسی لمحے، کچھ قلموں نے وار کیا، عدالتوں کے طے شدہ فیصلے اور زیرِ سماعت مقدمات کو اٹھا کر عالمی میڈیا کے سامنے پیش کیا گیا، نہ کسی قومی مفاد کا خیال، نہ وقت کی نزاکت کا احساس۔ بس ایک ہی دھن ، ملک کا بیانیہ کمزور کرو، چاہے اس کے لیے کچھ بھی کرنا پڑے۔
یہ اتفاق نہیں تھا۔ یہ ٹائمنگ بتاتی ہے کہ نیت کیا تھی۔
صحافت کا کام سوال اٹھانا ہے، یہ درست ہے۔ مگر جب سوال کسی ایجنڈے کے تابع ہو، جب وقت دشمن کی سہولت کے لیے چنا جائے، جب عدالتی عمل کو میڈیا ٹرائل میں بدلا جائے، تو یہ صحافت نہیں رہتی۔
یہ ایک اور چیز بن جاتی ہے، جس کا نام لینے میں کوئی جھجک نہیں ہونی چاہیے۔
آزاد صحافت اس ملک کی ضرورت ہے، مگر ذمہ دار صحافت اس سے بھی بڑی ضرورت ہے۔ قلم جب ملک کی پیٹھ میں اترے تو وہ قلم نہیں رہتا، وہ خنجر بن جاتا ہے۔
اور خنجر اٹھانے والے کا چہرہ ہمیشہ بے نقاب ہوتا ہے۔
قوم دیکھ رہی ہے۔ تاریخ لکھ رہی ہے۔
