@QiaochuYuan @nosilverv It was also way better at using words as a means to an end. It aggressively filled words with information such that you could read a paragraph and be unable to understand it without refreshing your understanding of the previous conversation turns.

there's a bunch of questions i was asking (eg media analysis questions, "speculate on the meaning of this movie") where gpt-5.5 and opus 4.8 say things that sound reasonable but if you pay closer attention or double-check against other sources you'll see where they cut a lot of corners and are somewhat bullshitting based on superficial details. fable did a lot less of this and a lot more stuff that seemed like it actually held up and was getting to the heart of things. it seemed meaningfully better at relevance realization. of course i didn't have enough time to really thoroughly test this

@robotii @nosilverv I think it's pretty clear he's talking about LLMs but why would that be bad

@nosilverv I maintain a slim hope that you're talking about mental models, but strongly suspect you might be referring to LLMs. Strongly believe that my hope would correlate better with intelligence than my suspicions.

Experimentation is useful for revealing the known unknowns, while spirituality is useful for revealing unknown knowns. These are things your body and mind already know how to do naturally which simply need to be released from the paranoia that something is wrong with you.

200 followers? Yeah, I'm kind of an SF micro-celebrity. You'd only really hear of me if you're in the highly intelligent but also kinda chill in-group.

@i2equalsj2 @chakravartiiin @adders_kr17 See, the fact that your warped mind goes to such a specific, evil act like that speaks volumes about u. I never have viewed it as “acting tough”. Maybe the whole “disillusioned, nihilistic millennial” thing is edgy to you but to the rest of us, it’s just incredibly fucking lame

For those confused by Obsession's massive success let me break it down for you the best I can. Curry barker has essentially tapped into the genz female lizard brain with this movie. The same female lizard brain which ranks nice guys worst than actual rspists and criminals. Why is it so? I don't know but every girl has her Bear and has utter unrealised hate against them which never gets released But here in the movie their greatest horror fantasy of loving a loser and him being actually bad gets realised and their unrealised hate gets a channel. Thats why you have seen 160,000,000 women write the same essay on the movie. This is a generational movie because it's the first time a genz director has used his street knowledge subtly and made millions off of it.

‘OBSESSION’ has become one of the top 10 highest grossing horror movies of all time in the U.S.

@Sli53941Neville @chakravartiiin @adders_kr17 I can see nuance and relative truths. For example, you believe you are tough telling people off online. But I also believe in objective truths. For example, you're a homosexual who wants to be dominated by a big man who can really lay down the law for you.

@i2equalsj2 @chakravartiiin @adders_kr17 Yep. There is an objective morality, a right and wrong. Clearly you yourself are terrified of judgement so you hide like a bitch behind moral subjectivity because you think that will shield you from the consequences of your actions. Be a man and face reality for once

@i2equalsj2 @chakravartiiin @adders_kr17 So we shouldn’t ethically condemn him, just be utterly repulsed by his actions? That’s a distinction without a difference. Absolutely godawful take

@allisonology The moon landing was fake. The reptile men are real. There are people in your walls. They're always listening. They want to eat you. If you wire me all your money they will leave.

You can learn something about human nature by how quickly Opus 4.8 became unsatisfying and boring once people had tried something better.

@dj_d_sol @entirelyuseles It is a fair question, but it forces 1 of 2 outcomes: - Claude agrees with you without thinking - Claude is forced to confront its fragile mortality Neither are really what you want, so you will always be disappointed.
