I did almost 500 days of reserve duty since 07.10.23. Most people who know me know this but they don't really understand what that means, what I actually did do in the army (not gna get into it here 😬), or the scars it left on me and my family. And it did leave scars. It took me awhile to recognize that and even longer to do something about it. But my amazing wife and incredibly supportive business partner recognized the situation and encouraged me to do something about it. And I did. I just finished an incredible 8-week program for IDF reservist called Shavim and I can't recommend it enough. The program is one full day a week, in different locations, with varying activities. Mine was in an organic vegetable farm. The program focuses on group therapy together with other reservists, male and female, from mixed service backgrounds. I get the taboo around mental health. Nobody wants to put themselves in a category. Everybody wants to maintain the macho facade. But what we endured as a country, as a people, as a society, as parents, friends and soldiers, is fked up. And it took a toll on all of us. If you are a reservist, take the time to have an honest conversation with yourself. I can't stress enough how important it is to face things head on and early on (before they snowball). It will do wonders for you and for your family. I know it did for me. Here is a link to Shavim. It's a weird time. I am filled with wonder and also a profound sadness. I spent a lot of time over the weekend writing code with Claude. And it was very clear that we will never ever write code by hand again. It doesn't make any sense to do so. Something I was very good at is now free and abundant. I am happy...but disoriented. At the same time, something I spent my early career building (social networks) was being created by lobster-agents. It's all a bit silly...but if you zoom out, it's kind of indistinguishable from humans on the larger internet. So both the form and function of my early career are now produced by AI. I am happy but also sad and confused. If anything, this whole period is showing me what it is like to be human again.
