Purpose. Passion. People. These are the three core missions of the 700 employees that work for @GeneralMills at their Belvidere facility. GM has been “making food the world loves” for 160 years. I was honored to be invited by the GM team as they hosted Congressman Darin LaHood this morning for a tour of their 500,000 square-foot facility. The iconic products that are made in Belvidere create a sentimental feeling. Nature Valley. Lucky Charms. Cheerios. Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Fiber One. Larabars. And most recently Fruit by the Foot (was a semi finalist in the IMA’s Makers Madness contest a few years ago). General Mills is a best-in-class manufacturer and this facility was first built in 1903! It’s got great history and has been home to several companies including Keene Belvidere Canning Co., Rock Valley Canning Co., MN Canning Co., Green Giant, Pillsbury, Diageo and now General Mills for decades. This plant is their 5th largest (out of 30) in the United States both in terms of headcount and production. They make and ship 41 million cases of product annually including 950 million bars, 647 million cups/bowls and 75 million feet of Fruit by the Foot (called Fruit-o-Long in Canada).

The Chairman @CongressmanGT released the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 this afternoon. We are appreciative of the committee's work to advance a "Farm Bill 2.0" that includes policy improvements for corn growers. NCGA is carefully reviewing this legislation and will be providing the full committee, @HouseAgGOP and @HouseAgDems, with feedback as they prepare to markup the legislation on February 23.
