Last week, I asked the @splcenter to host a webinar for community members on the road ahead in the fight to protect voting rights. It was great to hear from people across the district who logged on to learn more, ask thoughtful questions, and discuss what the recent Supreme Court decision means for our elections and our democracy.

I had a great time speaking with University of Chicago students last week about my path to public service — where I started, what I've learned, and what it really takes to fight for people in Washington.

This week, our Local 1899 @steelworkers, working at Granite City Works from Granite City were in Washington to talk about what they need back home.  As a dues-paying union member, I made it clear that I will always stand with them.

I sat down with members of the Illinois Corn Growers Association to talk through some of the most pressing priorities for Central Illinois — lock and dam funding to keep our waterways moving, renewable fuels like E15 that support our farmers and lower energy costs, and trade deals that open new markets for growers.

One of the best parts of this job is spending time meeting with the next generation of public servants. I stopped by yesterday to talk with junior staff, and the talent and vision in the room gave me real hope for our future.

Yesterday, I sat down with folks from Illinois Soy to dig into the issues that matter most to Illinois farmers — the Farm Bill, USMCA, and the state of American agriculture. These conversations are how we make sure the policies we're fighting for actually reflect what our farmers need on the ground.

ACA premiums went up 20% this year. Now insurers are proposing another 14% increase for 2027. Two straight years of double-digit hikes — and the folks feeling it hardest are middle-income Americans who lost their subsidies when the enhanced tax credits expired. This week, I met with the Illinois FFA state officer board, who are preparing to lead the next generation of American agriculture. Investing in their success is how we make sure Illinois stays at the forefront of American farming for generations to come.

A White House staffer used advance access to the President's speeches to place bets on prediction markets — over a dozen times — walking away with more than $100,000. It's corruption, plain and simple. The American people deserve better from those who swore an oath to serve them. A recent proposal from the Office of Management and Budget would essentially allow Trump’s political appointees to control grantmaking decisions — a change that puts communities in need of federal funding at risk. That’s why I co-led a letter with @RepTroyCarter with 127 of my colleagues to stop the politicalization of federal grantmaking.
