The Russian Orthodox Church is not a separate religious organization but an extension of the Russian state. Evangelizing is illegal in Russia and Christians are targeted and killed in Ukraine. Members should not entertain this intelligence operation. thehill.com/policy/interna…

@RealBenLuigi @DSPetolicchio Look everything you said is true but Jesus is also Jewish. He is not a Jew of the post council of Jamnia Judaism, but he is a Judean whose religious practice followed the main contours of 2nd temple Judaism.

One of the toughest things about the Christian dating scene is that the women are all over at the baptist/nondenom mega church and the men are all at the most trad place they can find

@ZealousSeraphim The issue is that according to IQ research there is no job someone with an IQ below 80 is capable of performing. What do you do with millions of people who fit that criteria?

If you don’t like welfare, then Americans should be guaranteed jobs that will cover their bills. It’s genuinely just not right that there are people who would work but nobody wants to hire anyone. Or people who work hard and can barely afford to live if that.

@gwyrain @THEORTHOCHAT The fathers don’t allow an evolutionary view of genesis. We follow the fathers. You can’t hold to evolution and be orthodox. Go read Fr Seraphim “on creation, genesis, and early man.”

@THEORTHOCHAT Most of these are whatever. But the 2nd, this "Did Jesus die for Neanderthals" variety, is incredibly important and I would not expect, actually, it to be answered satisfactorily "at the drop of a hat". It's a theological hand grenade if not careful

The blunt truth is that Orthodoxy can’t save Western civilization because it isn’t Western civilization. When Europe was wrestling through Magna Carta, Renaissance humanism, the printing press, and the Reformation, the East was locked in imperial courts and Turkish tax ledgers. The civilizational DNA is simply different. And yet, thousands of disenchanted men in America are falling for it. Why? Because the East has good aesthetics. That’s it. Beards, candles, chanting, robes that look like they came from a fantasy novel. Orthodoxy feels exotic and demanding, and compared to James Martin smiling at drag queens or Tim Keller trying to be respectable at a cocktail party, it seems like raw authenticity. But that does not mean it is aligned with the values of the West. In fact, it never has been. Western civilization was built on a fusion of biblical truth with Greco-Roman rationalism and a persistent drive to hold power accountable. Orthodoxy never nurtured that mixture. That is why the Orthodox world never generated the institutions we now take for granted: constitutional limits on rulers, universities free to debate ideas, parliaments, or common law. The values people want to defend (personal liberty, rational inquiry and all the other listed above) were Western achievements. Orthodoxy at best tolerated them when imported from outside, but it never birthed them." Read more at Insight to Incite. Link in bio. Audio version available

@ChrisWind2 @UnseenPathways Also see the common protestant dichotomy of faith vs works. When in reality faith is that which is working in love as Paul says. It's not that we're saved by either faith or works, it's that we're saved by grace through faith working in love.

@ChrisWind2 @UnseenPathways Big one is when someone says to jesus "blessed is the one who nursed you" christ responds "blessed rather are those who do the will of God". It's not deminishing Mary, she also did the will of God better than anyone else. Both/And. Not either/or.

@Nicholai_Korea Fr. David is wonderful, we also have multiple retired priests attached to our altar and Fr. Andrew of ancient faith will be attached to our altar next year. We’re also starting a mission. Glory to God.

Have you read Augustine’s confessions where he explicitly states that the Glory of God, since it is not the essence, is therefore a creature? This means in Leviticus when the Glory of God is worshipped, it is the worship of a created thing. You can plainly see Augustine wrestle with this in confessions. Go read it. It’s the natural result of the failure to distinguish God’s essence from his energies.

So you’re arguing that we don’t have synods expressly condemning double predestination, the Filioque, absolute divine simplicity, and the worship of creatures? Really? Yeah I thought you were a pretty clear example of someone attempting to change the faith. Rather let it change you, friend. May the holy trinity bless you and keep you and grant you all that’s necessary in your life for your salvation.

@Silvanus406 @superxtianmario Most especially the 9th ecumenical council which is completely contradictory to Augustinian conceptions of Trinitarian theology. I’m sure you’ve read the palamite synods, right?

You’ve clearly failed to learn what nuance means. Are you attempting to argue we follow all, most, or even a substantial portion of Augustine’s work? Of course we follow his theology in so far as it was orthodox. But in regards to things like original sin, the Filioque, etc etc we undoubtedly reject it. Do you seriously think you can profess Augustine’s formula of grace or trinitarian theology and be considered orthodox? Of course not!

@kingruggles @superxtianmario But if your extraordinary magisterium says it accomplishes the same thing, then by Latin canon law that must be true? Unless you think you know better than the magisterium, in which case who’s actually more Protestant, you or the NO? Sounds like you.

@jakerrush @superxtianmario The New Mass is protestantizing. It's text is radically changed from how the mass was done for millennia, and was made to please protestants. The difference isn't just Latin. For example, they changed the offertory to deemphasize the sacrifice of the Eucharist.

As an Orthodox looking at the SSPX situation, I don’t know how you couldn’t be sympathetic to ppl who just want a liturgy without a million liturgical abuses
