I just returned to Canada after 3 weeks in Europe.
My direct ancestors have been here for more than 200 years, but for the first time in my life, my trip home was marked by dread, frustration and disappointment. In fact, it didn't feel like coming home at all.
Something broke in these last few years and I don't know how to fix it.

@GOLF_com Scottie notches his 38th win of the season. Literally unstoppable.

@realEstateTrent We love our kids immensely. Did our first cruise a couple years ago when they were 1 and 3.
It was memorable.
Because we thoroughly didn't enjoy it! Kids hated it. We hated it. Now we religiously tell families with kids that age to avoid it.
Wait until they're older.

@CanucksArmy If you were Carolina's GM, he'd be the first forward you'd circle to get rid of. Flashy, fast, can put up points, sure. But a net negative player. The finest example of one-way forward.
Players like Necas are notoriously overpaid. Stay away.

Why the Vancouver Canucks should absolutely try to acquire Martin Necas canucksarmy.com/news/why-vanco…

@PeterPasula @seyerpa I can't find data on typical opposition he faced, but have read that this has very little impact on xG% ratings, for example.
Either way, he's statistically the best 5v5 goal producer on our team as a "bottom 6" forward.
English

@jameslepp @seyerpa When in a bottom 6 roll facing 3rd pairing. Love Hogs, great bottom 6 fwd that chipped in all year. When he moved up to top pairing he didn’t produce unfortunately. Although he was playing in top 6 w Mickeyev who was a total bum that couldn’t finish his many chances.

@Hughes4Norris Always thought this was off the stanchion, but was actually Marleau's stick? Linesman even waves off the high stick.

The Oilers got a "lucky break" on the Hyman goal ?
Are you serious Bowness ?
Hyman thoroughly outworked three Stars defenders and then undressed Oettenger, and it's a "lucky break" ?
Another top-notch panel member to bless us with his knowledge and insight ! #letsgooilers

@JustMike14 @LouStagner Strokes gained over a large sample size. In this case, I'm guessing using total strokes gained.

Valhalla separates on skill more than Augusta does.
Valhalla separates on skill more than courses in the open rota.
Math > romanticized feelings
data golf@DataGolf
PGA Championships historically separate on skill more than any other major. Last week was no exception:
English

@FireballsFan69 @LouStagner This is why Open courses are always low on this grid. Pot bunkers, random mounds, etc. Yes, a different style of golf that rewards skill differently, but luck plays a much bigger part.
English

@LouStagner Bad bounces on good shots makes architects happy, but results in more fluky winners
English

@gregsdua @LouStagner Sure it does. Good thinking means better scores/skill, no matter what you're measuring.
English

@hail2pitt01 @LouStagner "displayed the most skill"...what does that mean exactly?
English

@jameslepp @LouStagner Right. But saying the favorites played well this week, isn’t the same as saying the guys who displayed the most skill this week were rewarded.
English

@hail2pitt01 @LouStagner That's the exact interpretation of the data. Players who are good at golf generally do well at the courses at the top of the graph.
English

@LouStagner Seems like a misinterpretation of the data. This just says that guys who did well in the past also did well here. It doesn’t say these courses rewarded players who displayed the most skill in this tournament.
English

@SeanFairholmMGS @LouStagner What does a "better test" mean exactly? Sounds like you are confusing relation to par with a course that does a good job rewarding skill.
English

@LouStagner Disingenuous to suggest this is in Valhalla's favor or that it is a better test than Augusta, Open rota, etc.
English

@dkeeping Easy when you get all the O-Zone starts & PP minutes. Is this your boy??? "good at defense"...:

@BigHeadHcky While his "traditional" stats may not have reflected it, I thought he was solid in the playoffs. His advanced stats reflect that.
