@randob18 @ZXadventurer I put some followup questions if you're up to it! (I realize not everyone likes to talk about their work from more than 40 years ago, so there's no obligation.)

I just finished a six-part series on Infocom's Starcross, where I examined the history, did a playthrough, and ruminated on the plot. This link is to the last post, but it starts with a "category" link that lets you read everything in order. bluerenga.blog/2024/09/01/sta…

@SharpworksMZ were you ever able to play Dark Star? someone in my comments was trying but it requires typing in numbers, and the MZ-700 emulator is refusing to do so while in-game #comment-101398" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">bluerenga.blog/2024/08/11/hau…

@leighalexander thanks so much! love your series too y'all might like Time Zone, I did beat the whole thing without hints it turns out to be more solvable than expected once you catch on to the main vibe (lots of encounters are to be avoided, not "solved") bluerenga.blog/tag/time-zone/…

@jdyer A good start. I found the game much easier once my son and I had made our way through the whole DVD boxset :) It sort of gets you into the mindset for working out some of the game puzzles.

@jdyer Have to admit, didn't know what was going on there as those seemed to be my photos from my website above :D Then realised somebody had linked you up with my archive website. Some info on Adventure Game here: mz-archive.co.uk/downloads/cTka… if needed, including walkthrough.

@jdyer Nice article! Regarding the history of the machines, the MZ-80C, MZ-80K2 and MZ-80K2E weren't available outside of Japan. So over here we just had the 'K', the 'A', the 'B', the 700 and the 800. They had so many more machines in the series in Japan :)

it was _also_ one of the references for the ADVEN-80 system printed in Dr. Dobbs magazine, which was used for the first Japanese adventure bluerenga.blog/tag/omotesando… Omotesando then was referred to for Mystery House (the first graphical Japanese adventure)

this is something I suspected but never had confirmed -- Planet of Death, Inca Curse, etc. from Artic had the same starting point as the Trevor Toms system in a 1980 issue of Practical Computing bluerenga.blog/tag/city-of-al…

Charles Cecil meeting Tim Gilberts for the first time and finding one of his old games on Tim's display. Charles was surprised to learn that the text adventure engine he used for his zx titles was based off the same magazine article leading to the quill. @CharlesCecil @timbucus

@GameResearch_E @GamingHistorian when I answered an oregon trail question on askhistorians, a bunch of people wanted to pile on about apple the game was popular before apple, and if another computer had "won", MECC surely would have pivoted to that version (they had an atari port in their text years)

Currently collecting images for @GamingHistorian 's upcoming Oregon Trail video and I've been a bit surprised at the variety of computers in early 80s computer labs. While the common narrative is that Apple ALWAYS ruled the education market, that was a gradual process.

@jpdysonplay based on recent research Montague Redgrave's 1871 "pinball" patent seems to comprised entirely of already existing elements from Europe (that is, he didn't "invent" anything) but it remains open ended the earliest each of the elements appeared

I'm curious.... for game studies scholars, what do you think the most interesting questions, debates, or topics are at the moment?
