@cgcookie Absolutely. Not just the resulting work, but also the process. Best way to get tips and tricks is to have someone watch your workflow from over your shoulder, keeping an open mind for the tools and hotkeys that might save you a few hundred papercuts.

Ubuntu & Elementary OS Linux distributions are planning how to implement age verification functionality (for all user accounts on their OS), in order to comply with a new California law. “We're currently looking into how to implement an API that will comply with the laws while also not being a privacy disaster,” says Aaron Rainbolt, Ubuntu Community Council Member. The current proposal is adding a new D-Bus interface (“org.freedesktop.AgeVerification”), which would impact all Linux systems.

@HeatherIsUnsane Me, I do: 30 + 50 - (3 + 2) 80 - 5 75 I have memorised that the number bond to 10 of 7 and 8 are 3 and 2 I have memorised that 3 + 2 = 5 I have memorised that 3 + 5 = 8 So 30 + 50 = 80 So that’s how I simplify to 30 + 50 - 5

I suck at math, but this is how it works in my head. 7+8=15 (carry the 1 over) 2+4+1=7 75

@soyposmoderno I just don't get the "avoid gatekeeping" part, when most tools that people are defending are token-based and hosted remotely. In my head, that's the definition of gatekeeping.

Dunning-Kruger at its finest, using the “democratize tools to avoid gatekeeping” argument as if there were not available ones for decades for people to get results like these. But oh, that’s right, using those would imply an actual effort other than typing what you want and roll the dice :-) Will new storytellers emerge from playing with GenAI tools? Absolutely. Will everyone suddenly have the ability to narrate a story at the highest level? Nope. Will a subset of AI enthusiasts believe what they are creating is revolutionary, when they are mere style exercises? You see it happening everyday.

Disney/Pixar-quality short videos are now being created with Seedance 2.0 for a few hundred dollars vs millions, & in days by single individuals. This is an existential threat to the movie industry, & they will do everything possible to stop this to protect their gatekeeping.

Ended up animating a run cycle again. Learned a lot about Pose Library, Nonlinear Animation, limitations to what I can or cannot do within Blender compared to Maya. Good start to Day 1 of learning Blender! 💙🔥 #Halo #HaloAnimation

Pie Menu Editor is still the 2nd most discussed addon for Blender on BlenderArtists.org. The dev that created it has been MIA for some time, and some of the users continue to try to keep it alive while we wait (hope) for it to become a core focus... as it is a core tool.

@kiaran_ritchie Okay, that matches my experience. I find they get confused about Unreal stuff a lot due to various versions and suggest APIs that have long since been removed or maybe never existed.

This is no exaggeration. Claude 4.5 crossed a threshold. Every programmer needs to familiarize themselves. This is no longer an argument and soon it won't be optional.

@ibab It’s very good. People who aren’t keeping up even over the last 30 days already have a deprecated world view on this topic.

Somebody needs to explain to me why, when using NUBRS curves, you wouldn't want to turn on end points. Should be ON by default, just like harden normals in bevels. #b3d
