I used to be slightly bummed that Jessica didn't care all that much about watches, but I've realized that not caring much means they all look the same to her, and that in turn means she doesn't always realize when I've bought a new one.

I love this story. First, Boom's jet engine supplier, Rolls Royce, pulls out of the supersonic airliner deal. That should have been the end of the story. As GE often says, "if you want to compete with us in jet turbines, you needed to have started 30 years ago", because that's how long it takes. So it would be crazy to start now. But Boom didn't fold up tents. They said they were going to make their own jet turbine. Good luck 🙄 But they started anyway, and then "a miracle occurs": the AI datacenter boom creates unbounded demand for gas turbines, creating at least a 4-5 year backlog with existing manufacturers. And because the Boom terrestrial turbine power plants don't have to be certified by the FAA, that takes a decade off their path to market! So now 90% of the company is working on the turbines, with a huge pipeline of orders, and they're going to be a huge energy company, regardless of whether they ever ship an airplane or not. What a great testament to resilience. Just keep moving forward and eventually the path will become clear. Action creates information.

As we enter the build phase for our first engine, Boom is moving to video updates for our investors. Here is our most recent investor update (financial info redacted). Hint: there is an Easter egg 🥚

Wow, this tweet went very viral! I wanted share a possibly slightly improved version of the tweet in an "idea file". The idea of the idea file is that in this era of LLM agents, there is less of a point/need of sharing the specific code/app, you just share the idea, then the other person's agent customizes & builds it for your specific needs. So here's the idea in a gist format: gist.github.com/karpathy/442a6… You can give this to your agent and it can build you your own LLM wiki and guide you on how to use it etc. It's intentionally kept a little bit abstract/vague because there are so many directions to take this in. And ofc, people can adjust the idea or contribute their own in the Discussion which is cool.

This may be a dumb question but I’ll ask it here anyways: I can’t find a good way for my various AI chats to automatically sync its conversation history into a structured knowledge base. So that as I update various chats from time to time and refine context, my knowledge base automatically grows with this new info.

@paulg Please save all of us @nikitabier! Most posts are like this now making it unbearable to use X. I guess it's difficult to detect bot written posts, otherwise this would already be fixed.. force bots to disclose they are bots. Allow human users to filter out bot posts in settings

Another advantage of focusing on growth rate rather than absolute numbers is that it makes it easier to switch to a new variant of the product if you discover one. It makes it easier to see tails that will eventually wag the dog.

Regulations exist to "protect consumers." But they systematically favor established players over upstarts. Licensing requirements? Barriers to entry that cartelize industries. Safety standards? Written by incumbents to crush competitors. Every "consumer protection" law makes products more expensive and innovation harder. The FDA delays life-saving drugs for decades. Occupational licensing keeps poor people from earning honest livings. Regulations create the very problems they claim to solve—then demand more regulations as the cure. Free markets were never the problem. If we could scrap 90% of regulations right now, the world would flourish.

Some interesting data we pulled today showed that ~40% of Codex users use multiple surfaces, between the App, CLI, and IDE extensions. Everyone seems to have a primary preference, but a bigger-than-expected chunk of users launch codex agents outside of their primary interface. If you use multiple surfaces, I'm curious why? And what could we do to improve the experience?

@petergyang @IT_Digital_AC After much frustration, I literally use a Windows VM with Adobe reader installed there for this purpose. There are some pitfalls with that route too, like you have to make sure that it does not install McAfee 🤯 you have to trick the website to let you download the right version

@cperciva Check out what some say is the greatest piece of science fiction ever written.. it's a short story by Asimov called The Last Question. Takes about 15 minutes to read and the little girl in the story asks a similar question!

4yo: "Daddy, when will the sun turn into a red giant? And will all the people die when the sun swallows up the earth?" It's great that she's interested in things like this, but I really wasn't planning on addressing existential fears about the future of the human race at bedtime.

Most people use Claude Code like a chatbot and get chatbot results. So I documented the most complete setup you can install today. Inside: → How to continue your local Claude Code session from your phone without losing context or stopping work → The CLAUDE. md file that writes its own rules after every correction so the same mistake never happens twice → Scheduled task setup so Claude processes files, pulls trend reports, and consolidates team outputs every morning at 7am without you triggering anything → How to actually run 10 to 15 Claude sessions at the same time across terminal and browser → Subagent setup so Claude simplifies, reviews, and verifies its own work without you managing it → Plan Mode workflow so Claude builds a full plan before touching a single file (with exact activation steps and what to say) → Safe permissions setup so Claude never needs unrestricted access to your machine → MCP connections for Slack, BigQuery, and Sentry so Claude uses your tools directly → PostToolUse hooks so code formatting never causes errors in review → Ready to use files including CLAUDE. md, subagents, slash commands, scheduled task instructions, and hooks → Common mistakes that slow Claude Code down and the exact fixes Boris Cherny uses If you build with AI daily, ship code, or manage a team using Claude Code, this is the only setup guide you will need. Comment "CLAUDE" and I will send it straight to your DMs.

All we ask is that they go public earlier like the old days. That's kind of the deal-- we (the poor folk) accept the inequality IF we are allowed the opportunity to have a taste. Getting shut out from being able to invest is all downside and no upside for the rest of us common folk.

@vxunderground About 9 months old. I was holding my kid and just talking, Daddy's putting on his shoes. Immediately looks down. That's when I realized they really understand everything you say much earlier than you think (because they can't articulate themselves to you until much later).

Yesterday I spent some time making him a small bowl of pasta mixed with broccoli. It wasn't a lot, it wasn't a particularly difficult meal to make, but when I made it I was extremely tired and I tried to provide him a healthy meal. I sat it down on his little feeding table. He looked at the food. He looked up at me. He looked back at the food. He glanced around the room. He then decided to smack the bowl and fling the food I just had just prepared for him all over the floor. When I looked at the giant mess on the floor I let out a dramatic sigh. He thought my facial expression was funny and he began laughing. I verbally said, "fuck my life", and began cleaning up the mess.

My 11 month old son has learned "protesting", the precursor to true temper tantrums. He grabbed my beard and pulled on it as hard as he could. My face was bleeding (not a lot, just by the hair follicles), and somehow the right side of my beard is longer than the left. Where he pulled my beard, the skin is red, itchy, and some hair follicles appear to be in-grown (they look kind of infected). He is also the perfect size to kick me in my testicles. When he lays down, his feet reach my groin. When I hold him up, his feet reach my groin. I have been kicked in the testicles probably five times the past couple of days. No, he isn't kicking hard, but (if you're not a man and you didn't know this already) any sort of hit to the testicles is painful ... and kind of scary. He is also strong enough to throw things. He is not accurate or consistent with his strength, but he successfully threw a small bowl of mashed pumpkins into the curtains in our dining room. Despite my best efforts, our curtains are now stained with pumpkin, it has infused into the curtains at a molecular level. I'm tired
