@OglaghnaHeirean Not really true. The SE of Britain was becoming Germanic even before Roman occupation. And the Saxons later on treated the Britons fairly well.
The problem I suspect, is that the Normans weren't entirely Germanic. There is a reason they brought the moneylenders with them.

As a Scotsman, our identity shouldn't be reduced to endless Wars of Independence and defining ourselves AGAINST England. Romantic nationalism is reactionary, one-dimensional and fixates on defining ourselves exclusively against the external, when the internal is just as important. Wallace and Bruce were heroes, but we are more than defiant rebels. We delivered massive intellectual, scientific, and exploratory contributions, punching vastly above our weight in doing so. We rebelled gloriously but we also helped build and expand Britain's global empire which elevated our status on the global arena. 🇬🇧 We should integrate the full legacy instead of succumbing to reactionary identity. We aren't just underdogs, we are intellectual/military conquerors and we should own it. 🏴
