@amanda_spielman @amymayforrester Mmm. Agreed. Whenever a PEX happens, it is a last resort. And all critics ever say is that PEX does not help the child who has been PEXed. Not true. It enables them to access avenues otherwise closed and it safeguards the education and mental wellbeing of the other children.

People working in schools are often going full tilt, constantly busy, always stimulated by their environment. I'm increasingly aware of this as a problem around three limitations that affect everyone: a) Cognitive bandwidth- you can only think about so many things at once b) Chronological bandwidth- your time is finite, and only so much can be done c) Emotional bandwidth- you can only care about so much at once Overloading any one of these three leads to that sinking sense of helplessness, stress, and being overwhelmed. We often conflate all of these as workload, but that collapses too many things into one. I also think that they play off against each other. Lack of time affects what you can think about; but having to juggle too many relationships can also exhaust what you can get done, etc.

Every single person I have spoken to this week (admittedly all professional types, but not politically active) say the same thing - “dreadful behaviour, the only grown-up is Starmer.” Himself (never a fan before) says he’s going up in his estimation the longer it goes on.

So here’s me late at night dissecting how one of my lessons went today and whether I should have challenged some things a little bit more than I did. It was just a normal, but not the best, lesson. And this is nearly 20 years in. Teaching eh.

@Headteacherchat visit from the LA ‘SATs police’ today. (Everything was fine) - but such a level of unnecessary stress. Every aspect is riddled with subtle accusatory and paranoid undertones. Nothing like feeling trusted in your job….

I waited 14yrs for a Labour government & these backbenchers have decided to throw it back in my face by calling on the only Labour leader to win an election since 2005 to resign. I’m disgusted with each and every single one of them including my own MP, @Tom4EWAS

SATs were first introduced in 1991. For 35 years, they've been an immeasurable cause of stress, pressure and worry for teachers, school leaders and children. The tragedy in education is that flawed systems often endure for decades, even when they do much more harm than good.

@BBCNews the behaviour of the press, including the BBC this morning is utterly disgraceful.

Do I think Ofsted care about the wellbeing of teaching staff? No, but reading through the submissions to the parliamentary inquiry set up after the death of Ruth Perry is heartbreaking, made worse by the fact that Ofsted, haven’t learnt a single lesson.

I’m not really old or at least I don’t think I am, but this was the board I had in my first classroom and for my first four years of teaching! Others were jealous because I could prepare the next lesson on the back!

In our primary schools this morning - all had issues logging into the new assessment portal. Did nobody think to consider 17k primary schools all trying to log in at the same time?
