@TechOperator I don’t worry about range anymore, it’s become where is the nicest place to stop for coffee, small villages/towns on our last few trips are getting it. Pop a destination charger in and people will come.

EV range anxiety is only something experienced by non-Tesla or NACS-compatible EV owners, including ICE drivers who really don't know any better. It's just not as big a deal as they want you to think it is.

I remember 5 years ago when I first drove a Tesla and how much anxiety I had, stressing about “Where am I going to find a charger!? What if I run out of battery!?” Those were real feelings, and I get why some people fear the change to EVs. I can honestly say 5 years later that it is hands down the best mindset change you can ever experience: going from driving an ICE car your entire life to experiencing the future of transportation. Throw FSD in the picture and it’s the closest you can get to teleportation.

And another problem is that public transport was generally designed like a star to bring people to the CBD, not across town. I have an eight minute drive across two suburbs to work. That same trip on public transport would involve 2 buses and 1hr 30minutes, that’s if the buses turn up and if they run on time.

In most Australian cities, the problem with public transport is not the face value of a fare for a trip on a bus, train etc.
It is the “generalised cost”, waiting time, unreliability, discomfort, slowness.
Cutting fares does not fix these costs to the user (it makes it worse)

@sydney_ev Agree, so long as the speed index, load rating and max operating pressure is in spec there’s no reason to have to put an ‘EV’ tyre on, there are way heavier ICE SUVs out there than EVs

If considering an #EV, regarding tyres, you DO NOT need EV specific tyres. sure they might help with some noise, but they are NOT a requirement. you can replace them with normal tyres of correct sizes.

My Model 3 weighs in at 3kg less than my Skoda Superb wagon. It went through its first set of tyres at 40,000km and rear discs at 50,000km (adaptive cruise control riding the rear disc). The 3 is at 15,000 km and the wear is half that of the Suburb based on the distance to the wear line at the same point. One thing I’ve noticed is the 3 is far better at delivering power to the ground with almost no slip, VAG software seems to like to let the fronts spin a bit more.

@sydney_ev And expect to replace them regularly. With the extra weight of the vehicle, tyres will be replaced every 20k

Have to admit I’m developing a soft spot for the quirks in v13. It’s got a little bit of character and swagger. Sometimes it gets in completely wrong like a driver on L’s and the 5 minutes later it’s doing something that leaves you speechless. It also gets a terrible case of the zoomies at night 😂

@SomeUKTeslaGuy @TeslaOwnersUK It will be the same issues that happened with the version we have down under, little annoying things, but nothing that can’t be fixed. Definitely felt tweaking even if the release number hasn’t changed.

I'm as bullish as anyone on FSD - however there's still uncertainty for some scenarios.
Not that it *won't* cope, but that it might not have encountered everything we have over here, or the training might need a little direction/tweaking.
Most notable one that keeps coming to mind is tight rural roads where the bushes / flora come into the road space higher up than the width of the surface at tarmac level.
Scraped paintwork for the unwary whilst it's still supervised, potentially.
With evolution it will, of course, nail everything.

I have a smaller system so I will be updating my automation software to switch the home battery into charging from grid during the window. On top of that, for the days the EV will be at home I will plug it in during that time, that will cover the mileage for the next few days easily.

Oddly enough I ran some basic numbers this more after reading treasuries comments and modelling on road user charges for EV, PHEV. I would pay $300 a year less than what I would in fuel excise based on the NSW charge. The ridiculous part is that I would have driven the EV four times the distance of our ICE. After I claim the ATO concession for at home charging of the EV the government ends up covering my fuel excise. It is all a bit messy.

Fuck. I rented this gas car so I could find out how long it takes to fill gas but they gave it to me with a full tank
It has like 270 miles left in the tank. Driving that far seems like a lot of work. Any ideas? Anyone in socal want to drive it 270 miles for me and not steal it?
