New SNP MP Lara Bird (pictured) said, sworn in to England's parliament: "I take this oath only so that I can serve the people of Arbroath and Broughty Ferry. My first allegiance is, and always will be, to the sovereign people of Scotland".
On the other hand, new Tory MP, Douglas Lumsden said: “I swear by almighty God that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to his Majesty King Charles, his heirs and successors, according to law, so help me God.”

Utterly disgraceful & disrespectful behaviour from the new SNP MP for Arbroath & Broughty Ferry. She added a preamble to the loyal oath indicating she didn’t accept it, then read the actual words holding up crossed fingers, presumably to signify she didn’t believe it. Awful.

@Alexarmstrong Its because the rules date back to the days when parliament was all male, and so the rules for male attire became quite specific. When women entered parliament no equivalent rules were set out, and female attire was guided by the vague principle of "business-like".
