@JohnGower1 There really is something remarkably cretinous about a response that instantly reveals the person hasn't bothered to watch the video they're commenting on - not even the first two minutes of it. Perhaps you didn't think of that, John.

@JamesKelly Scotland exercised self-determination in 2014; voted to remain in the UK. Perhaps you've forgotten.

@lamont1940 @oldjamfan Honestly, Carlos, there's no problem here. No need to fiddle the franchise - there's a Yes majority in the polls in Scotland itself. If you're happy with us "f***ing off", give us the vote and independence will be the result.

@lamont1940 @oldjamfan I'm afraid if you want to prove that rather dubious point, you're going to have to stop running away from democracy.

@oldjamfan @JamesKelly 55.3% of Scot’s seem alright, the rest just seem like whiny sponging sociopaths whose parents dragged them up with this mistaken belief that they are held against their own will in their own country.

@oldjamfan @lamont1940 By God, you're going to get a shock if you ever bother to have a look at actual Scottish opinion polls. Smelling salts at the ready, Andy - and prepare to have your entire belief system challenged.

@JamesKelly @lamont1940 The irony is if you gave a referendum to the English they would quite probably vote to fuck Scotland off. But the truth is Scotland doesn’t want to, for whatever reason, no matter how many tantrums you throw.

@oldjamfan @lamont1940 It wasn't a "once in a generation referendum". Nobody can stop a quasi-colonial state from making up "rules" like that as it goes on - but if it does, there's no point in pretending that it's anything other than a prison.

@JamesKelly @lamont1940 Scotland said no you numpty. In a once in a generation referendum. You can’t keep having a rerun until you get the result you want. And I voted yes.

Retweeted by Isabel Oakeshott. Very obvious that if Reform come to power, they will lock people up for criticising them.

The outrage at Scots not supporting England is due to them spending the last few years broadcasting England games into Scotland instead of Scotland's games. They spent a lot of time and effort to brainwash Scots into supporting England and are furious it has been rejected! 😂👍

@lamont1940 Yeah, bud, it's just a total figment of our imagination that we've voted to hold an independence referendum several times in the last decade and London said no. Never happened. No colonialism here!

@mr_p_carnehan The first one was only a "temporary occupation" in the sense that Scotland militarily drove out the conquerors! It was fully intended to be a perpetual colonisation, and Cromwell's plan was the same.

@JamesKelly You might call such events temporary occupations but in no sense were they colonisations.

Hmmm. You can perhaps technically get away with saying the *current* Union isn't colonisation, although it has quasi-colonial characteristics. But "England *never* colonised you"? What about Edward I in the 13th Century? What about Oliver Cromwell in the 17th Century?
Tim Farron@timfarron

@RickHJohnston Support who you like. But how can you love your country when you know so little about it? England never colonised you, you did however join us in colonising half the world. You are culprits not victims! Ironically we were both colonised by Norway.

@FullFatMilky You're thr one being thick if you believe the UK "letting people vote" has anything to do with *self*-determination. I mean this is pretty basic stuff.

@JamesKelly The UK let you vote and you voted against independence. In the same way as it let the Falklands vote and they also voted against being Argentinian. I mean you guys really are thick.

The England-Argentina match may do wonders for the Scottish independence cause. Some of our southern friends are getting so incensed about the Falklands that they're talking themselves into supporting *democratic self-determination* (gasp). I mean, that has consequences, chaps.

@mr_p_carnehan Not according to the opinion polls, my friend. A clear majority in Scotland in favour of independence in an average of all polls conducted in this calendar year. Exactly the same last year.

@JamesKelly Well done for spotting this, James. You correctly recognise the important similarity between the Falklanders and the Scots. Most people in each group want to be British.

@LHP_CEO It's OK, Simon, you've made your position clear: you oppose self-determination and believe Scots must be forced to remain in the UK regardless of their own wishes. That does logically mean the Falklands must now revert to Argentine rule, but I'm sure you think that's worth it.

There is nothing wrong with you wanting to pursue independence but you need the UK Parliament to agree to a referendum. That’s necessary because the UK Parliament would, effectively, have to agree to reverse the Acts of Union, at least in part, by consenting to the outcome of a referendum. The UK Parliament has clearly rejected a referendum any time soon. It probably doesn’t help your cause that Nicola Sturgeon described the referendum as a “once in a lifetime” opportunity. The Scottish Government also used the term one in a generation in its White Paper on a referendum and both yes and no campaigns also used the once in a generation formula. It was clearly more than a rhetorical flourish.

@nig1952 Yes, there should also be a binding EU-wide vote on whether to reverse Brexit. On your own logic I'm sure you'd agree. You can't go leaving a club without *permission*, Nigel.

@TheWulfster A national Scotland-wide vote is exactly what I want, so agreed: Scotland would vote Yes to independence. Opinion poll evidence confirms that.

@JamesKelly The best thing you could hope for is a national vote. You'd be independent in short time.
