My advice for young professionals? Move to Houston. Live next to the house where they filmed Reality Bites. Get thrown out of Valhalla for refusing to remove your tie. Feed the Hermann Park ducks at midnight. Tweet at TxDoT. Move to Houston in your early career. No regrets.

But after that I am quite literally never flying @SouthwestAir again. And I've been a loyal Southwest customer since 1987. What happened to our Texas airline? How did it all go so wrong? I am so tired and frustrated I could cry. But what would be the point?

@SouthwestAir gave us travel vouchers to make up being involuntarily bumped, but I don't even want to travel with them again. The last few years have been so awful; every flight has some issue, some delay. I'll use those travel vouchers because I don't want to waste them.

Please enjoy my latest @SouthwestAir travel debacle, because I'm currently stranded in Queens with three students and I have nothing to do except write about it. Southwest overbooked our 6:30 a.m. flight today by 30 passengers, so three of my students were bumped.

My college students would like to hear more about career paths adjacent to writing and editing. In other words, stable jobs that use verbal skills but aren’t necessarily in publishing or journalism. Suggestions? Advice?
