It was an honor to testify before the @councilofdc & @ChmnMendelson on behalf of Stoddert Elementary. Since the start of the school year, our school has been without a legally mandated Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). These professionals provide essential support to children who struggle to communicate. As PTO President, I’ve seen the impact of this gap firsthand. Watching some of our most vulnerable young students regress in their speech and language development has been heartbreaking. We’re calling on our city’s leaders and @dcpublicschools to take immediate action and give our children the services they deserve. They are our future. Our students deserve better. Their families deserve better. And our community deserves better.

This afternoon, family, friends, and neighbors gathered to remember and celebrate the life of Rayven Edwards of Glover Park in NW D.C. It was a beautiful ceremony; though a heartbreaking reality that it was held outside the apartment building where she was shot by her abusive ex just days ago, in front of her children. Rayven’s life was tragically cut short to 34 years and she now leaves behind three young children. Praying for the two victims who have been tragically shot in Glover Park in NW DC late this afternoon. @StoddertPTO was immediately put under lockdown which included students in aftercare, parents who had arrived to pick up their kids, aftercare staff, and @dcpublicschools and @DCDPR employees. Everyone in the school community is safe and has now been dismissed. Thank you to @DCPoliceDept and @SecretService for ensuring safety for our children.

Such a powerful experience to share with my mother-in-law as we welcomed the Walk for Peace at the Washington National Cathedral. This group of Buddhist monks have braved the elements, walking more than 2,300 miles from Texas to Washington, D.C., as they approach their final destination. It was incredibly moving to have them lead thousands of us in meditation; standing side by side, practicing mindfulness, and slowing our minds and bodies together. We were reminded that peace begins internally. By treating ourselves with kindness and compassion, we cultivate a sense of calm that can radiate outward into the world. Wishing these monks strength and peace as they continue their journey.

Full circle moment. While an apprentice at @I_Stage almost 20 years ago, I teched a show that @paigeinfull starred in. Last night at the Embassy of Cuba @EmbaCubaUS, we reunited with new roles — Playwright/Director and Board President!

Thinking of the hundreds of talented and devoted staff let go by the Washington Post today. It’s a dark day in D.C. to see so many cultural and informational mainstays vanish overnight. Washingtonians will continue to share stories and bring the truth to light.
