🇨🇺🇨🇷We reject the unilateral decision by the #CostaRican government to downgrade relations with #Cuba, limiting them to the consular level, without any argument or justification. This is an unfriendly act, which responds to obvious pressure from the U.S. government as part of its renewed offensive to try to bring other countries on board with its failed policy against Cuba. But they will come up against the strength of the historic and deep-rooted relations between our two peoples.

📌Statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba Under pressure from the United States, Costa Rica limits its relations with Cuba to the consular sphere. On March 17, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship of the Republic of Costa Rica informed our Foreign Ministry, through a Diplomatic Note and without offering any argument, of the unilateral decision to close that country’s Embassy in Cuba. Additionally, without any justification and invoking an alleged and unfounded reciprocity, it requested that Cuba withdraw the diplomatic staff from its Embassy in San José, noting that this does not include consular and administrative personnel, who may remain carrying out their functions. It also notified that starting April 1, the government of Costa Rica will maintain relations with Cuba at the consular level. This is an arbitrary decision, evidently adopted under pressure and without taking into consideration the national interests and those of that brotherly people. With this step, the Costa Rican government, which has a record of subordination to United States policy against Cuba, once again joins the offensive of the U.S. government in its renewed attempts to isolate our country from the nations of Our America, and becomes a participant in its aggressive escalation against the Cuban Revolution, rejected by the international community. As 60 years ago, it will fail in its endeavor. Nothing will be able to distance the peoples of Cuba and Costa Rica, united by indissoluble ties of a shared history, enriched by great heroes of Cuban independence such as Martí and Maceo. In doing so, it reveals the predominance of criticism of the U.S. government’s coercive policy toward #Cuba, accompanied by anti-interventionist, humanitarian, and national sovereignty-defending currents that question the legitimacy of U.S. pressure on the island. This contrast between the noise on social media and the content of other public debate spaces illustrates a central reality of contemporary politics: social media platforms are not public opinion. Social media platforms tend to exaggerate the influence of hyperactive minorities, to pass off amplification as a majority, and to grant cyber-troops a centrality they do not always have outside the circuit they themselves dominate. cubadebate.cu/especiales/202…

This is the only way to explain the fierce economic war being waged as collective punishment against the entire people. 📈🚨Government decisions to facilitate the participation of Cubans living abroad in the country’s economy, announced by Deputy Prime Minister @polivaoscar: - Allow Cubans living abroad, without actual residency in Cuba, to participate in or own private businesses in Cuba. - Cubans living abroad may form partnerships with Cuban private businesses through companies. This applies not only to small businesses but can also include infrastructure and large enterprises. - Participation of Cubans abroad in the country’s financial and banking system. Opportunities for Cubans to participate in the business and financial sectors are being opened up. - Cubans abroad will be able to open foreign currency bank accounts in Cuban banks. - Regarding land-related businesses, usufruct rights will be granted - Cubans residing abroad will be able to form partnerships with Cuban state-owned or private entities.
