@samuelap1_ I think we were good for around 30-35 mins and then our legs started to go. Then the penalty after just the first body blow. The way I felt, even if the tactics were correct today, we just don’t have the physical tools that our counterparts do

However if you watched the game, they often cut through us due to how committed the pressing 4 (Hugo, Salah, Wirtz & Grav) were to their designated opponents, and even then, they didn't create much, especially in the first half. With a strict focus on the centre the space was often in the wider areas for City. Szoboszlai & Gomez on the right side was a good remedy for the O'Reilly and Doku problem and Wirtz and Kerkez worked well defensively to stall Cherki and Semenyo. They got an out from Halaand, Konate didn't always follow him all the way and so that created havoc because Halaand immediately recognised he was the free player and tried to be more forceful with his actions when he could escape. Essentially the really annoying thing is we did better than the Anfield game, this ultimately means nothing without being attentive to every moment. Anyways, lets see what happens on Wednesday.

What makes today all the more frustrating is those first 30 minutes, which will now be completely wiped from our memories, we made some tweaks from the previous times we faced them and looked to firmly have the momentum of the game in our hands. Beyond frustrating at this point that we just don't seem to be able to deal with drastic shifts in momentum, once the first bad moment happens, it's downhill from there.

@NotSlotaClue I would recommend reading Brundish's piece about Robustness vs Fitness. Probably the foremost reason why I think Slot has got things very wrong this season

The biggest issue at the club is fitness. You have to train at intensity, freak injuries to Isak and Leoni aside the bulk of Liverpool's injuries this season stem from low volume and intensity in training.

@NotSlotaClue Frankly, I don't share the optimism. I think if he were just up to par this squad should comfortably sit in third at least but the more worrying part is how drained the teams appears to be morale wise.

I'll be honest I reckon if we fill the holes in the squad, Slot has every chance of getting back to where he should be.

If we could get our €35m back for Frimpong this summer, I'd snap your hand off. Still no clue what his best position is. He cant replace Salah and he's too weak defensively to be starter at RB. What were Hughes and Edwards thinking — or was it Slot who pushed for the signing?

He'd be very high on my list if it weren't for the World Cup. I adore the way he uses Wirtz in particular.

@LFC__Clara I do think Szobo at CM and Jeremie at RWB is more suitable. Also gives us far less work to do. Whether its Anderson/Wharton/Camara/Sangare. I know those are different profiles but I don't think we'll sign more than one CM

@SamQuinnCBS "Frozen" is the correct word and has been for almost the entirety of the decade. They wanted to keep one foot in the present and one in the future when it made sense to pivot all the way to the present as soon as they lifted the trophy in 2022

It's so strange because the organization is effectively frozen. They're going to have to tank and rebuild for a few years. We all know it. But they can't do it as long as Steph is there, yet with Jimmy hurt and so little talent elsewhere, they can't win either. Play-in purgatory.

Looking back, i think I've been overly harsh on Gakpo. Has he been dreadful? Yes. I think it is mainly down to how he's being used and how the team isn't functioning. There is a valuable player in there.

Mohamed Salah is to bring the curtain down on his illustrious career with Liverpool Football Club at the end of the 2025-26 season. The time to fully celebrate his legacy and achievements will follow later in the year when he bids farewell to Anfield ❤️

Would love to see Frimpong's scouting report prior to his signing. 2/3s into the season and still no clue on his best role. Looks a pure pace merchant. Dreadful at RB (which everyone knew), & totally useless on the wing if a fullback like Spence matches his speed. Harsh???
