@coursera why on earth can I not access my paid account without being forced to sign up for some nonsense with the NY Department of Labor that includes sharing my data with said government organization? I can't opt out or access my subscription. This is unacceptable.

STILL have not filled a non-renewable 1-year full time position at $70k to teach 5 courses next year. I am a bit desperate. We could fill the position with a primatologist willing to teach intro Life of Primates and upper level Primate Nutritional Ecology jobs.rutgers.edu/postings/201610

@lisamdanish Well then of course you shouldn't review. I see it as something you do in exchange for the reviewing that is done for your own papers. If you're not submitting papers, no point reviewing them

Probably an unpopular opinion, but... I don't think academics should be paid extra for reviewing papers. 🧵

@lisamdanish I do. We review so that we can be reviewed by others. I exchange my time reviewing for someone else's time to review mine. Imagine instead I am paid for my reviewing, and have to pay that when I submit papers. Who in the world can afford to still publish, and who loses out? (1/2

@lucas_rmor It's cute that he thinks we're all salaried...or that Institution A's salary should pay for it's employees to do work for a completely different place ....

My unpopular opinion, scientists should get paid for ANY job they do — papers they review, talks they give, consultation they provide. That’s how jobs in the real world work, science should not be different. Passion doesn’t pay the bills.

@amy_nusbaum What good is getting credits that don't count towards your degree or pre reqs? It's actually worse than an F, cause you can retake a course you got an F in (and increase your GPA if you do better)

@GabrielleHecht I'm an adjunct and I turn on my summer I'm off contract message as soon as I am...and I don't respond until I'm back on contract (I do delete the massive pile up of nothingness every week or so, but otherwise? I literally don't work for you right now...

@robo_tabby @chronicallybeee Because we know you're not safe to ask because you don't care enough to just wear the thing for us. Frankly, any health care provider not masking is also incompetent in my book- how do you not recognize the risk to yourself and understand the risks to your patients?

then maybe you shouldn’t be a physician, especially in emergency medicine. you know, since the most vulnerable people need emergency medicine the most often.
