Behold, Our New Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Pereotubo Akpe Is Here! Today marks a historic moment in the political journey of our dear state, with the swearing-in of Dr. Peter Pereotubo Akpe as our new Deputy Governor, following the demise of Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the immediate past Deputy Governor, last December. While I took my time to make a replacement for Senator Ewhrudjakpo, the choice of the Chief of Staff, Government House, Dr. Akpe, was guided by the need for continuity, competence, commitment, character and the fear of God. I feel very happy to observe that the nomination and subsequent inauguration of Dr. Akpe, has enjoyed wide acceptance, reflecting that we have prayerfully made a good choice of a man with distinguished academic excellence and tested administrative acumen. Once again, congratulations to the new Deputy Governor, and I urge him to serve with loyalty and an abiding sense of responsibility for the greater good of Bayelsa State. Let me appreciate Mr. Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere and members of the State House of Assembly for your timely approval of the nomination and also the Chief Judge of the State, Honourable Justice Matilda Abrakasa Ayemieye, for administering the oath of office and allegiance on Dr. Akpe. I also congratulate and welcome the newly sworn-in Commissioner for the Ministry of Women, Children Affairs, Empowerment and Social Development, Mrs. Joanna Gigi and the eighteen new Permanent Secretaries as active players in the Government of Assured Prosperity. While I call for the continued support of our people for the current administration, my team and I have resolved to make a difference in governance through legacy projects and programmes across the state.

@firstladyship Constitutionally, the FCT Minister is the sole overseer given the power as Administrator or Governor of the FCT. So as governor he can monitor the state based on the constitutional power given to him by the constitution

This man brought electricity to his town and pays the scholarship for 60 students from his own pocket. He contested an election and lost. Apparently, they voted against him cause he is rich enough. So he took everything including the electricity and asked them to meet their winner. Color me petty jorr, I love him. 😂❤️🫵🏽

There was "Aburi" before Aguiyi Ironsi made a decree. He probably thought he would hold the power for life before destroying our peaceful "Aburi". When power was taken away, "Aburi" became difficult to achieve again. Those asking for "Aburi" had a leader who mutilated "Aburi". Maybe when you start taking responsibility and also be opened to the fact that "aburi" can't be achieved by blackmail and violence but by negotiation and friendship, then will there be agreeable solutions to disputes. The truth is, those who want "Aburi" once had leaders who murdered "Aburi". You can't eat your cake and still want it back.
Alex Onyia@winexviv

Nigeria has been arguing about “restructuring” for 50 years now because we are afraid to say the real word: Aburi. Aburi wasn’t about secession. It was about power leaving the centre. Nigeria briefly admitted the truth in 1967: the centre was too strong, the regions too weak. The solution on the table was simple devolve power so no group needs permission from the centre to feel safe. That admission scared the centre, so it was diluted. Every federalism argument since then is Aburi pretending to be something else: State police? Aburi. Resource control? Aburi. True federalism? Aburi. What we call “unity” today is just fear of decentralization. Nigeria is more centralized now than under military rule, yet we keep lying to ourselves. We didn’t reject Aburi because it would break Nigeria. We rejected it because it would change who controls power. Until that is confronted honestly, every constitutional conference, national dialogue, and restructuring committee will keep circling the same unresolved question: How much power is the centre willing to let go?

I am pleased to provide an update on the administrative progress regarding the match bonuses for our national team at AFCON 2025. The Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have successfully streamlined the foreign exchange processing to ensure our players are rewarded without further delay. Going forward, the process will be fully streamlined to ensure faster, more predictable disbursements aligned with international best practice. Here is the current progress: • ✅ Funding: All group-stage bonuses were fully released and have now cleared the necessary regulatory stages. • ⚡ Acceleration: We have implemented a fast-track conversion process to move funds into foreign currency, honouring the players’ preferences. • 🏦 Disbursement: The final transfers to domiciliary accounts are currently in flight. Players can expect these funds to reflect starting today or tomorrow. Our focus remains entirely on supporting the team’s welfare so they can maintain their incredible momentum in the knockout rounds. We move forward with one goal: Bringing the trophy home! 🏆 #SuperEagles #AFCON2025 #NigeriaProgress #FinancingGreatness

@kmbiamnozie God bless you for this piece. I say it everyday, Nigeria can be fixed, it takes a committed and focused no-nonsense leader to handle Nigeria. Even the so-called cabal in every sector go bow. Die to the decay n rot, Naija needs a top-bottom approach to reset it

The easiest country to fix, ironically, almost tragically - is Nigeria. I say this without hesitation. Place a great leader at the helm and give him six months, just six months and you would watch the nation take shape with a precision so dramatic it would feel almost surgical. Our most persistent plague - corruption; would evaporate the moment it is met with uncompromising consequences. An executive order establishing capital punishment for grand corruption in both the public and private sectors would alter the national psyche overnight. Nigerians still do not grasp the depth of the rot, the way corruption has rewired our collective psychology. Insecurity, infrastructural decay, stagnation in every sector, our fractured international reputation trace the thread and you will find corruption sitting smugly at the center of it all. Remove it, and in six months you would witness a nation unchained. A National Bureau of Investigation would replace the dysfunctional central police structure, state offices, modern protocols, intelligence-driven operations while the current Nigeria Police Force is devolved entirely to the states. Law enforcement becomes local, accountable, professional. Education must undergo a structural rebirth: four-year technical colleges designed to produce the tradesmen, engineers, and builders who can power an infrastructural renaissance. Pair that with technological investment and the revival of our agricultural might, and the country begins to breathe again. Energy independence becomes non-negotiable. No more shadowy middlemen who have fattened themselves on national dysfunction. We explore new energy sources, modernize the grid, and sever the parasitic networks that have held us hostage. We dismantle monopolies, every one of them. We open the economy, level the playing field, and unleash the fierce, competitive intelligence of ordinary Nigerians who have been shut out for decades. We free ourselves from the addiction to foreign loans. We rebuild from within, with discipline, honesty, and national pride. And finally, we assemble a team of wolves, men and women hungry for national transformation, people who do not fear the cost of doing what is right. All of this is possible. All of it is within reach. But they will never do it. They would rather preserve the status quo than give peace, justice, and renewal a fighting chance. Until Nigerians are ready to give their nation a fighting chance, we will continue to wallow in this misery while the elites pockets your national inheritance. Tell your friends, families, neighbors and colleagues, the time has come.

TO FORMER PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI, Your Excellency, Across the country today, from our cities to the quietest rural communities, Nigerians are saying something some never expected to say: “We miss Buhari.” Not because your administration was without flaws as with all governments across the world, but because the pain Nigerians are facing today cuts deeper than words can capture. Our people are overwhelmed — by insecurity, by hunger, by rising poverty, and by a growing sense that the nation is drifting dangerously and on the brink of the lower falls. In moments like this, Nigerians look back and remember the things they once overlooked: They remember your steadiness. Even in difficult times like the COVID-19 which threatened human existence, there was a sense of order, predictability, and calm at the centre of power. The world was amazed. They remember your discipline and modest lifestyle. You led with simplicity — no extravagance, no excessive display of affluence. That humility spoke to ordinary citizens. They remember your honesty with the nation. You were transparent about your health, never hiding, never pretending. You respected Nigerians enough to tell them the truth and to hand over constitutionally whenever necessary. They remember a country that, though imperfect, still felt united. The divisions tearing through our nation today; tribal, religious, political and class, have reached frightening levels. Many now look back at your era as a time when Nigeria still held together. They remember the hope that came from steady national projects. Infrastructure, agriculture, social investment programmes, etc. Progress may have been slow, but it was visible, and Nigerians felt that the country was moving forward. Your Excellency, Nigerians are not comparing perfection to perfection — they are comparing pain to memory. And in that comparison, many now say with heavy hearts: “We didn’t know we would miss Buhari like this.” In order to rescue our nation from this freefall, we have joined hands with other well-meaning and patriotic Nigerians, to rescue our nation, using the Coalition Vehicle, ADC I write to echo the voice of millions of ordinary Nigerians, not out of politics, but out of bare and INCONTROVERTIBLE truth. People are hurting. People are afraid. People miss the stability and honesty they once felt under your leadership. We pray for your continued rest and peace, Baba. And we work earnestly for Nigeria so that hope will return, unity will be restored, and the suffering of our people will come to an end. We know we are guilty of installing this incompetent and clueless government but be assured that we are united in the bid to sack the government, come 2027. God bless Nigeria. Lauretta Onochie ¹
