Sandy Fire Air Monitoring Update - Due to the Sandy Fire’s proximity to the Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL), hazardous materials and radiological monitoring teams continue proactive air quality and radiation monitoring operations around the fire area. Currently, seven air sampling radiological monitoring locations have been established surrounding the incident, including the Chatsworth, Lake Manor, Bell Canyon, Oak Park, and Simi Valley areas. These monitoring systems are being used to establish background environmental conditions and to continuously evaluate smoke and air quality conditions as firefighting operations continue. The Sandy Fire has NOT reached the Santa Susana Field Laboratory property, and there is currently no indication that any radiological material has been released from the site. The attached drone video shows the current fire perimeter in relation to the SSFL area. Public health and environmental agencies, including Ventura County Public Health, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), Ventura County Air Pollution Control District, and the U.S. Department of Energy, remain actively engaged in monitoring conditions and supporting incident operations. The U.S. Department of Energy is supporting air monitoring operations around the SSFL out of an abundance of caution. Radiation measurements collected as recently as 2025, along with modeling conducted following the 2018 Woolsey Fire, continue to indicate that the extremely low levels of residual radioactive material at the site pose no risk to public health, even in the event wildfire activity reaches the area. The SSFL is located in an area historically prone to wildfires, including the 2018 Woolsey Fire. Following that fire, air, soil, and ash sampling conducted by DTSC did not detect the release of chemical or radiological contaminants from the site. Additionally, radiological assessments conducted by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health found no discernible levels of radiation in tested areas surrounding the site. Residents can continue monitoring local smoke and air quality conditions using the AirNow Fire and Smoke Map: #12.41/34.22865/-118.75519" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">fire.airnow.gov/?lang=en#12.41… About the video: The background map shows the drone location as a circle with a blue arrow. The blue line shows the flight path of the drone, while the moving polygon represents the area the drone camera is viewing. The left screen displays the thermal imaging view, and the right screen shows the normal video footage. This video demonstrates that the fire did not reach the Santa Susana Field Laboratory property. @CountyofLA @LAFDtalk @CountyVentura @SimiValleyPD @City_SimiValley @VENTURASHERIFF

Let me be clear: I have no dog in this fight. Officially “undecided.” But as lead organizer of the Turkey Day Dash, which has raised nearly $200K for charity in the last 3 years, I was so dismayed to see this cheap shot in a recent letter in @TOAcornNews re: the D2 Ventura County supervisors’ race. While not an outright lie—it is a GROSS mischaracterization of the situation. @markperryman4vc PAID $1,000 to be a sponsor of the Dash. And like every $1K level and above sponsor, he received the benefit of being able to put 1 promotional item in every bag that went to our 3,000+ runners. The only difference? Mark showed up to help at the event where volunteers stuff all the various swag into the totes, an arduous process to say the least and much less fun than staying home and watching MNF. Most sponsors simply mail or drop off their items. They’re certainly not expected to be there. I didn’t expect Mark to show up either. But he did, along with his family, to give 2 hours of their time. So in addition to his flyer, Perryman was stuffing bags with Acorn pens, Grocery Outlet coupons, chapstick, brochures, etc. This letter writer, who was present at the event and knows the truth, makes it sound as if Mark just showed up and started shoving bags with his campaign materials. It’s misleading and truly sad from someone whose own club benefited financially from the Dash (and Mark’s donation). Did Mark show up and help because he thought it would win him a few votes? Maybe. But that cynical take can be applied to ANY candidate who volunteers their time in public. He also could have paid that $1K to Meta or Google for 20,000 more impressions but instead he used it to benefit 3 local charities. Wish more candidates would! Since I’ve left the paper I’ve done everything possible to stay out of political matters. This is the last tweet I wanted to have to send. But as the “lead turkey” on the Dash, I simply couldn’t let a sponsor get hung out to dry like this without saying something. Fin/

@D_Pletcher @vcd2sup A 13 year old boy died this weekend in a Train vs ebike collision in Simi. Like you, I alerted the board and even wrote a letter to the editor in the @TOAcornNews urging actions other counties have now implemented for over a year. We still have zero enforceable ordinance in VC.

Sad to see @vcd2sup using the e-bike issue as a campaign issue. I’ve laid out a reasonable plan to address the problem over two years ago… at the point of sale. Safety of our kids isn’t political. We need a supervisor who wants to get things done. @markperryman4vc

@VCTaxpayers Jeff Gorell has rubber stamped every budget with zero attempt to reform or make efficient the County’s budget. This is despite VCTPA’s continuous push to address the hospital’s challenges, virtually weekly with Jeff and the board. Action > Words. Vote Mark Perryman for VC Sup

@vcstar VCMC is impacted - the same hospital that is $500m in the red with debt service payments of $1m a week for a system East County residents don’t use. This will add even more pressure as @JeffGorell does nothing despite the @VCTaxpayers continuously demanding action.

VCTF's Bill Frank explains the Ventura County Medical System's problems ⚕️to the Simi Valley City Club members. VCMS' existence is threatened. Yet, the #BoardOfSupervisors while aware of the problem, ignores it. #VCMS is insolvent. Negative cash flow.
