VCFD firefighters responded to a rattlesnake bite off Long Canyon train in Wood Ranch today. This marks the 7th reported rattlesnake bite in Ventura County since mid-march. With this increase in snake activity, we wanted to share some important rattlesnake safety information: Rattlesnakes are active this time of year and often found on or near trails, in brush, and around rocks and logs. Take a few simple steps to stay safe: • Stay on marked trails and watch where you step • Wear boots and long pants • Look before stepping over rocks or logs   If bitten: stay calm, limit movement, and call 911 immediately. Do NOT use a tourniquet or try to remove venom. The Library Fire in the area of the Reagan Library in Simi Valley has been mapped at 8.6 acres. The road to leading to the Reagan Library has now been re-opened. The fire was initially reported at 1:38pm, and approximately 70 firefighters were dispatched to the incident. Multiple units have been now been released from the fire, but some firefighters will be remaining on scene for the next few hours mopping up hot spots and reinforcing control lines. VCFD’s UAS (drone) operators are on scene and surveying the fire footprint from the air to ensure all hotspots are identified and fully extinguished by ground crews. There were no injuries reported, no structures damaged or threatened and no evacuation orders issued. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

VCFD is on scene of a brush fire near the Reagan Library in Simi Valley. Forward progress of the fire has been stopped at 5-7 acres. Firefighters are made an aggressive attack from the ground and the air, including VCFD ‘s Firehawk helicopter. There were no structures threatened and no evacuation orders issued. Staff at the Regan Library made the determination to self evacuate.

Structure Fire in Simi Valley: VCFD along with Simi Valley PD responded to a working structure fire in the 1500 block of Patricia Ave in Simi Valley this morning. Arriving units reported heavy smoke and fire coming from one unit of a two-story, multi-family complex. Firefighters made an aggressive attack - knocking down the fire while also performing a primary search to ensure all occupants had evacuated safely. Nearly 40 firefighters responded to the incident and crews will be remaining on scene to complete overhaul and salvage operations. There were no injuries reported to firefighters or civilians. Sadly, one dog was found to be deceased in the residence. Two units were red-tagged by Simi Building and Safety, and a total of 10 residents are displaced. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

VCFD along with our partners at Oxnard Fire, Federal Fire Ventura County, Port Hueneme PD and Gold Coast Ambulance responded to a working structure fire in the 1400 block of 5th Street in Port Hueneme. Firefighters arrived on scene with smoke showing from the 2nd story of a two-story, single-family residence. Initially, it was reported that people were trapped in the home, but they had safely evacuated prior to our arrival. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack, keeping the fire to the room of origin, while also performing a primary search to ensure all residents had safely evacuated. The residence required extensive overhaul and there were 5 residents displaced. There were no reported injuries to firefighters or residents. Over 40 firefighters from VCFD and of our partner agencies responded to the incident and the cause is under investigation. VCFD responded to a brush fire in the 11800 block of Championship Drive near the Moorpark Country Club in Moorpark. The fire was initially reported at 50’ x 50’ in light to medium brush with a slow rate of spread and near high tension power lines. Firefighters made an aggressive attack from the ground and the air, and stopped forward progress at 1.1 acres. 60 firefighters responded to this incident including VCFD Engines, Water Tenders, Patrols, a hand crew and one of our Firehawk helicopters. There were no structures, threatened or damaged, and no injuries to firefighters or civilians Firefighters will be remaining on for the next 2 to 3 hours mopping up any remaining hotspots. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

STR VCFD along with LA County Fire is on scene of a working structure fire in the 900 block of Westcreek Lane in city of Thousand Oaks. Units on scene are reporting a 2-story, multi family with smoke showing from a 2nd story apartment. Firefighters are aggressively attacking the fire while conducting a search of the apartment and adjacent units to ensure everyone has evacuated safely. Firefighters are also working to protect exposures in nearby occupancies. Approximately 50 firefighters are committed to the incident.

VCFD and Ventura City Fire firefighters, along with AMR and CHP, responded to a technical rescue along Foothill Rd, west of the City of Santa Paula. Upon arrival, firefighters located two individuals stranded approximately 30 feet in the air after the boom lift they were operating malfunctioned. Firefighters from Ventura City Fire’s Medic Truck 5, supported by personnel from both Ventura City Fire and VCFD, executed a coordinated rescue—safely bringing the individuals down using their aerial ladder. Both individuals were unharmed and did not require medical attention. This incident highlights the importance of interoperability between Ventura City Fire and VCFD, demonstrating how our agencies work together seamlessly to provide fire, rescue, and EMS services—regardless of jurisdictional boundaries.

VCFD and Oxnard firefighters responded to a residential duplex garage fire in the 100 block of Santa Paula Ave in Silverstrand. During the incident, firefighters from Oxnard Truck 81 rescued a young boy from the third story, guiding him to the second floor and then safely down a ladder to the ground. The child was evaluated on scene by firefighter paramedics and Gold Coast Ambulance personnel. VCFD along with Oxnard Fire and VCSO is on scene of a small, single engine aircraft that crashed into a drainage in the area of Carmen Drive and Lucero Street in Camarillo. Firefighters successfully extricated two patients from the aircraft. Both were transported with severe injuries in critical condition to a local hospital. The aircraft did not collide with any structures in the area. Firefighters are remaining on scene to address and mitigate any remaining hazards. Notifications have been made to the FAA.

Approximately 60 firefighters are currently assigned to the incident and will remain on scene for several hours mopping up. The fire impacted a row of eucalyptus trees, causing damage to a number of avocado trees in a nearby orchard. Forward progress has been stopped, and firefighters will remain on scene throughout the day mopping up and checking for any additional hot spots. CHP has issued a closure of Balcom Canyon Road between the 118 freeway and Stockton Road. The closure is anticipated to continue until at least 12pm. There were no structures threatened or damaged by the fire. Approximately 50 firefighters responded to the fire, and there were no injuries reported to firefighters or civilians.
