@kev5673 @GenPolComm @dustyf1n1sh I mean, it's salaried! My friend jn a materials science PhD program, and my friend working as an environmental educator are both making less than this. Super far along in their careers, it's just a difficult funding environment right now.

@sndwv_ @lovelylilac_txt It just makes me really sad. We are one of the few countries whose weapons systems kill so many. Is a world not possible where we stop assembling those systems wholesale? The marginal loss to the contractor is high if we all collectively agree not to work for them.

@matlabdogboy @lovelylilac_txt I don't even think it's about impossibility so much as the marginal loss to the contractor if declining the job is nigh 0, whereas the marginal gain to you, someone who will ostensibly reinvest those resources into yourself and your community, is quite high.

employed trans girl engineer here: you literally don't have to. gals in college switch to a different engineer track that's more transferable (electrical, mechanical) so you have options or go to something that can benefit society like me (civil, environmental)a

@lovelylilac_txt @sndwv_ I agree. At a certain point we get to choose who we work for. I'll stop short of judging people for working for contractors but I think at a certain point it makes sense to accept some personal hardship to not work assembling weapons systems, unproductive to say its impossible
