global solar build out is already at ~55GW per month on average. at current growth rates this will double by 2030. name another power source that can grow at that rate. you can't. even if you remove ALL regulations, it's really hard for large mechanical heat engines to economically beat a modular sheet of silicon and glass sitting in the sun. it's basically macrotech vs nanotech. vacuum tubes vs nanoscale silicon transistors.

In maybe 2005, in Autodesk Inventor 7 I produced a full 3D model of the Windscale Pile One reactor.
The graphite core had 540,000 graphite bricks, the model included as built details but also a huge number of as-is survey details of damaged fuel rods and fire damage.
I also modelled the entire building, the concrete raft, bioshield, all the ancillary equipment, it was around 600,000 parts in total and I built it on a machine with 4GB of RAM.
Autodesk Inc verified it as the largest and most complex model built with Inventor at the time.
So… pretty complex.
