@GavMcCracken To be neutral, you need to also point that Iran has called for death to american, israel and the suni states for decades. Doesn't sound super rational either.

Charles Schwab had a system failure yesterday (3/25). They couldn't tell if trades got executed or not and said they wouldn't know until this morning. This was their entire system as I understand it, individuals, advisors, everyone. Kind of amazing it takes them 12+ hours to figure out if trades happened or not but ok, I guess. Yesterday, they said to check back this morning. I called at 8amish Eastern today. They said the group that handles trade issues doesn't come in until 9am. Seems like maybe having the trade break people come in early the day after a total system failure with tons of trades that either failed, got duped, etc. wouldn't be the worst idea but no. I called back after 9am and they said the system was still resolving itself and they hoped trades would be processed and allocated by 6pm today. It is currently 7pm and my executions from yesterday are still not allocated. The trade reconciliation group has gone home - call back during normal hours the automated line says. I find all of this somewhat amazing. The regulators are up everyone's keester about basically everything except apparently when it comes to one of the larger custodians having a total system failure and all their clients not really knowing their positions. All of this brings to mind a line from Gordon Gekko, "Wake up, will you, pal? If you're not inside, you are outside, okay?"

🚨 BREAKTHROUGH: Scientists just pushed solar cells beyond their absolute efficiency limit. Researchers have demonstrated a method to surpass the long standing Shockley–Queisser limit in solar energy conversion. The breakthrough uses a quantum process called singlet fission, where one high-energy photon generates two spin-triplet excitons instead of the usual one electron–hole pair. This enables >100% external quantum efficiency, meaning a single photon can effectively produce multiple charge carriers. Researchers also demonstrated a spin-flip mechanism using a molybdenum-based system to efficiently harvest these excitons, achieving ~130% quantum yield experimentally. The system relies on organic semiconductor materials like tetracene and pentacene, where a singlet exciton (S₁) splits into two triplet excitons (T₁ + T₁), reducing energy lost as heat. In optimized systems, singlet fission can reach 200% exciton yield, offering a pathway toward 30–45%+ solar cell efficiencies, beyond the 29.4% theoretical limit of conventional silicon cells. If successfully integrated into real devices, this approach could significantly improve solar performance, especially in high efficiency photovoltaics, space systems and hybrid solar technologies.

I think the correct route for civilization is to add a cost to causing a nuclear meltdown: If a country causes a reactor to meltdown due to their weaponized lunacy, they should have to pay 1 tril in gold, using today's gold price to calculate the ounces (inflation protected).
Gavin@GavMcCracken

Unfortunately for civilization, this is bearish nuclear & uranium. If Israel is willing to take these risks & they start losing / get desperate, there could be Fukushima 2 We know Israelis are supremacists that call their neighbors animals. They wouldn't mind irradiating them

Canadians are weeks away from going to prison for sharing footage of Israelis murdering children, because that's antisemitic.
CIJA@CIJAinfo

"Bill C-9 represents an important and necessary step to strengthen tools for law enforcement and prosecutors to protect targeted communities and hold criminals accountable.” CIJA joins @ALCCAcanada, @bnaibrithcanada, @cwaa_national, the Canadian Jewish Law Association and @CanadianFSWC in welcoming the adoption of Bill C-9, The Combatting Hate Act, by the House of Commons and urges Parliamentarians to advance more measures to confront Canada’s antisemitism crisis. In the wake of violent attacks targeting Jewish communities, Parliament must act with urgency. The Senate should move quickly to pass Bill C-9 and help ensure that all Canadians can live in safety and security. Click here to read our full statement: cija.ca/jewish_communi…

Unbelievable satellite view of the Middle East cyclone right now. It’s not very often you see something like this in the Persian Gulf region. Over 1,400 km to the SE of the low-pressure center, the most intense supercells of this entire system just struck the United Arab Emirates and blanketed the nation in exceptionally cold thunderstorms. Towering, electric cloud tops as frigid as -90 C (-130 F) moved directly over Dubai and Abu Dhabi, delivering one of the stormiest nights in recent memory for both of these desert metropolises.

It’s a casino, and the house always wins. Back in 2008 I made over $500k on $10k in Apple puts in a single day (day trade), part smart/party lucky. My broker called me the next day and said the trade didn’t go through and didn’t count… I won’t name the brokerage, but they’re still around. I’ll never forget that and that the idea of fair markets is just a facade.

Oil is down 6% now as the usa increases the military draft age to 42 and Israel prepares to call up a few hundred thousand troops from reserves. Use words, not engineering to rebuild pipelines. Nothing to see here goy, move along.
Gavin@GavMcCracken

So it turns out that ceasefire rumour that I mocked, was real. Iran has declared a ceasefire. Oil's down 3%, the market clearly thinks the ceasefire is imminent. Attached video is not related at all. Definitely not related.

The most densely populated place in human history ran for decades without a single government official, police officer, or bureaucrat—and it worked better than most state-run cities. Kowloon Walled City crammed 33,000 residents into 6.4 acres between 1950-1994. Zero zoning laws. Zero building codes. Zero municipal services. Just pure market forces and voluntary association. You had 14-story buildings constructed without architects or permits, yet structural collapses were virtually nonexistent. Residents organized their own utilities, waste management, and security through spontaneous order. Dentists operated next to noodle shops, schools functioned above factories, and rooftop communities thrived in spaces government planners never would have imagined. Crime? Lower than surrounding Hong Kong districts with full police presence. Disputes got resolved through community mediation and reputation systems—no courts needed. Small businesses flourished in every conceivable niche because nobody had to navigate licensing bureaucracies or pay regulatory tribute. A fishball vendor could start operating tomorrow if customers wanted fishballs. Period. But here's what really drives statists insane: this "slum" (their word, not mine) had 99% employment rates while government housing projects struggled with joblessness and social decay. Families stayed together. Kids got educated. Entrepreneurs created wealth from nothing. All without a single five-year plan or urban development committee. The state eventually demolished this miracle of spontaneous order in 1994, replacing 33,000 productive lives with a sterile government park. They called it "urban renewal" while destroying the most successful example of anarcho-capitalism in modern history. Every time you hear politicians promise to fix housing shortages or create jobs, remember they already bulldozed the solution.
