Bike lane where two cyclists have been killed in recent months does not comply with minimum safety standards, council warned last year Councillor who supported the removal of wands on the road says “the majority of people wanted them removed” road.cc/296907 #cycling

@tom_a_jeffs @MrHappyCyclist @boltoncouncil @OfficialTfGM They used to hide behind "no money". Over the past couple of years it's become clear that it's not about money since AT funding is going unspent, but about enabling more driving. After all a prosperous town is one where everyone drives (according to Bolton councillors).

@gmpolice I see examples every day of how much you care about vulnerable road users. Like this (see who has just driven past). Concentrate on this, not helmets please.

@cyclinggrump @ToryCycling It turns out he was probably referring to motorbikes. But it suits his agenda to leave it ambiguous to stir up a bit of bonus hatred towards people riding bicycles.

Conservative Friends of Cycling & Walking
We’re looking to write articles highlighting excellent cycling infrastructure built by Conservative councils. Please DM us if you know of any, as we’d love to get in touch with the responsible councillors for the feature. Thanks!

@OfficialTfGM Can you provide a full breakdown of these 100km+ please? I can't think of more than a few miles of actual high quality (Bee Network standard) routes. Obviously any section of paint only cycle lanes on roads or narrow canal paths aren't included in this figure.

🐝 We are rolling out of the country’s largest cycling and walking network as part of the Bee Network. 🚶 100km+ of new cycling and walking infrastructure will be in place in 2021 and 500 miles by 2025. 🚲 This also includes a new Cycle Hire scheme!

@MrHappyCyclist Hard to reconcile the actions of the executive member for cars with this map showing what we should have within 10 years. Did he not understand what the Bee Network was when his own council produced this map?

The meeting of the Exec Member to consider this will be next Monday, 20th September. I suspect the decision will be to scrap the scheme. In that case, I think there would be a strong case for a judicial review (but IANAL).

@sr_drivinschool Sadly that didn't surprise me at all. As a driver who actually drives at or below the speed limit I frequently get overtaken aggressively on 20/30mph roads. Many drivers as inpatient with "slow" drivers as they are with people on bikes.

Welcome to the future of the town of councillors continue to block attempts to make residential streets safer and enable fewer journeys to be driven. Its a grim future.

It's astonishing how much disruption (and congestion) is being caused in Westhoughton by a private developer building houses on green belt land. But Where's the uproar from our councillors and residents about all this disruption? Not a squeak. If it were a cycle lane though?

How many roads near you have a layout like this? Conventional wisdom suggested central hatching would slow drivers down, but studies showed removing it actually decreased vehicle speeds. We could rapidly make much better use of this space to enable safe cycling infrastructure.

@boydmjohnston @MrHappyCyclist Residents designed some already for @boltoncouncil, the Mayor's Challenge Fund is paying for them, just need Bolton's councillors to want to install them for them to happen.

What is the purpose of these ridiculous "Cyclists Dismount" signs on either side of the railway bridge on Rumworth Road, @BoltonCouncil. Is it that people on cycles weight more when they are riding?
