Anxious relatives and friends waiting for news at Creswell Colliery. Sheffield Star 26 Sept 1950. It took almost a year for the last bodies to be recovered. More in my book ‘Coal Mine Disasters in the modern era 1900-1980’.

@ScarredForLife2 NCB recruitment crisis 1968 - Try the pit for 6 months. NCB advert in the Notts Free Press, 10th May 1968. Two months later the biggest pit in the Notts coalfield, Kirkby Summit, closed. Plans for a Super Pit trashed. The repercussions were far reaching!

@miningheritage I was given a copy of this 50 years ago. Super, and the illustrations are also by the author. The poetry is full of accurate local history, including the mystery of the missing Undermanager.

South Derbyshire Mining Preservation Group
A fantastic talk by one of our newest group members. Bob is a geologist who worked for the Coal Board and has a great knowledge of the faults of South Derbyshire’s coalfield, as well as how they were dealt with. He has agreed to deliver more presentations in the future 👍🏻

The Ghost of Coal! The preserved Pleasley Pit headstocks #Derbyshire on a damp & foggy day for the 30th anniversary event of the Friends of Pleasley Pit. It is an amazing story of volunteers turning an abandoned coalmining site into a designated National Heritage site. 1/4
