@i11umin8ed @SandraKrafczek @BulwarkOnline That’s fair it does slightly impact the treasury although it is not paid by taxpayers. Overall, even with the increased cost of the building the treasury will make money on the FED through remittances. In 23 the FED still sent 76 billion to the treasury.

"It means the treasury is getting less from the FED." Right, it means the taxpayers are getting less money from the Fed because it is being spent on renovations. This impacts the Treasury's budget and can lead to a larger federal deficit which also impacts taxpayers. Claiming that "renovations and upgrades will pay for themselves over time" doesn't make sense, they have spent more than $3.1B on their renovations so far.

@mrtawney @SandraKrafczek @BulwarkOnline Congress doesn't allocate funds to the Fed. That doesn't mean taxpayers are not paying. I think you need to read more about how the federal reserve operates, especially during times when their revenue is less than their expenses.

Excess revenue from the Fed is given back to the US Treasury (taxpayers), but only after they cover their expenses first. The last time they gave back to the Treasury was 2022 because they haven't made enough to cover all their expenses. Put simply, taxpayers were paying for their expenses.

The Fed has not had any positive income for years, so taxpayers subsidized this. Income from the Fed generally pays for their operations, dividends to member banks, and maintains the surplus, but the rest is given back to US Treasury (taxpayers). When they are not making positive income they write little "IOUs" called the Deferred Asset Mechanism, so that is money that is not given back to taxpayers. If taxpayers weren't paying for it, Congress wouldn't need to approve it, and Trump wouldn't care.

If you watch the full Trump-Zelensky press conference, it is very clear that Zelensky, not Trump or Vance, became the antagonist. Both POTUS and VP were very respectful and cordial until Zelensky very publicly ignited a firestorm. It all starts at 40:30 1) Zelensky essentially rejects how VP described the mandate of POTUS to conduct foreign affairs, and he insinuates that Trump term one did nothing to stop Putin. 2) He then basically tells Vance that his ideas are faulty and that the administration's diplomacy won't work. These two comments are *deliberately antagonistic.* Everything was all well and good, but Zelensky took two major shots in a public forum, and they had to respond. And respond they did. Recall, this is the guy who interfered in our electoral politics and called VP "too radical," and bashed Trump in an interview with New York Mag weeks before the election. Zelensky is ENTIRELY at fault here. 100%.
