✨️ I’m excited to share my second-author paper encapsulating most of my PhD work, which is out today in @ScienceMagazine 🥰❤️. A new long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) underlying sex chromosome dosage compensation in the lizard Anolis 🦎 #MAYEX! 🧵👇 science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Happy to see this one out! Congratulations to Mariela Tenorio (@mayetenorio_) and Diego Cortez (@ccg_unam) for leading the discovery of MAYEX, a #lncRNA involved in dosage compensation in the green Anole 🦎!!! Link to the paper and more details in the 🧵👇🏽

New research led by UNSW geneticists has studied the testes of the tammar wallaby to discover how fathers silence their X chromosome in their daughters. The findings advance knowledge in evolutionary biology and human physiology. Read the full paper here: pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…

"My father realised that I had an interest in science," recalls Distinguished Professor Arthur Georges FAA (@UniCanberra). "He was a politician and he brought me to Canberra quite often and one year, he took me across to show me the Shine Dome." Arthur, now a world-leading ecologist and herpetologist, is set to return to the Dome next month to be inducted into the Academy at #ShineDome24. "[My father] explained that it was the centre of academic life for scientists. As is anyone who sees it for the first time, I was really impressed. But back then in 1968, it was really out of the ordinary. That memory stayed with me forever." Arthur will be inducted into the Academy along with 21 other new Fellows as part of our four-day annual event, Science at the Shine Dome. I'm excited to share that our new paper on sex chromosomes in platypus and chicken came out today in PNAS. It shows how imbalances with gene dosage on sex chromosomes are corrected in the proteome! @mud_skip @ProfJennyGraves Check it out at pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…
