Ireland has the most democratic election system in the world. The far-right have never & will never get enough votes to be a serious political threat here. Even those who protested won't vote for them because Irish people are inherently decent & caring & shun hate

@traktorius11 @eeldenden With majority voting, other countries get to decide how others govern even if they specifically dont want it ot its bad for their respective economy. As that directly impacts national sovereignty, it'll legally have to go to referendum in Ireland.

@murph17398 @eeldenden Yeah I'm not denying that treaty changes sometimes require referendums (I just mentioned that it's not always necessary in all countries). I think there was even one time when Ireland rejected something. My main point was that I don't think this is talking about a treaty change.

@murph17398 @eeldenden I don't think this is talking about treaty change and/or change in how the council and the parliament works? At least I don't see that. Even then weater treaty change requires referendum or only ratification by national parliament really depends on each country.

@traktorius11 @eeldenden Surely it would be if it changes how European citizens are represented by their electes govenment in the EU parliament? Chasing the voting system is a huge change, not one originally agreed upon on membership. It changes too much to be left to MEPs

@TheEuropeansHQ Nationalism is what saved Ireland from colonisation and allowed Irish people to run yheir own country. Pretending its inherently negative or anti EU by default is politically illiterate

In the most nationalist era since the 1930s, Europeans keep choosing Europe: support for the euro at record highs. Opposition to EU membership taboo even on the extremes. Not because Brussels is perfect (it's not); because when it counts, we know we are stronger together. Turns out Europeans actually feel European. Who knew. ft.com/content/927ef2…

@Europarl_EN Did any of that happen for the Mercosur deal or the seizing of Russian assets???? Or did Ursula override it all and do what she wanted anyways?

@Richard74565596 @CorkGourmetGuy As i just said, a partys leaning is literally determined by their policies, not their history. All of our main parties have changed over the years, if you knew ANYTHING about Irish politics you'd know that. It doesnt matter what example I use, my point remains the same.

@murph17398 @CorkGourmetGuy History of these parties is irrelevant because ... its very easy to verify and directly disagrees with my current statement. I will now talk about American politics because I know more about America than my own country.

@traktorius11 @eeldenden Because many Europeans countries needed public vote to join the EU under the original terms. Changing how votes are cast, overrides original agreements and require the public of many countries to vote again before any changes can be made.

A big bang moment! The EU unveiled a roadmap toward One Europe, One Market. A more integrated Europe by next year. The digital euro 💶 is only one aspect

Europe stands at a crossroads. If we want a democracy that is not only just, but also capable of acting, we must rethink how power is organised in Europe. 👉 Read the Manifesto of UEF and join the debate: buff.ly/Rwzk6w2

@CorkGourmetGuy No, its actually a basic civic duty of all citizens to hold politicians to account when they fail on their promises. By your logic, to be considered non-extreme, one must be fully pro establishment.

A key tactic from the far-right is to constantly question the position of any centrist or socialist leader. What is happening to Micheál Martin is also happening to Keir Starmer. The idea is to make them look weak despite recent election victories & prevent them doing their job.

@CorkGourmetGuy @murph17398 Ireland is leaning to the far left over the last 5 years. No European country has 33000 NGOs involved in all sorts of wokery BS (some are probably useful) but even The European Court of Auditors said funding can be: “opaque” with fragmented oversight and data gaps

@irishexaminer How dare you generalize the working class as angry dangerous men. Women were ALSO protesting. If men protesting is "terrifying" to you, you need to seriously touch grass.

@CorkGourmetGuy They're far left, left,or centre left. FF/FG are centre left at a stretch The closest thing to centrist is Aontú, but our politics are so 1sided that everything right of centre is far right. Even people asking for a reduction on overtaxation during a crisis are called far right

@murph17398 The majority of political parties are centrist or center left because it represents the political beliefs of the Irish people. There's no big right wing or far-right party because Irish people don't want one.

@CorkGourmetGuy @TirChonaillAbu If there was any credibility to your opnion, you'd have addressed my arguement directly, instead of ad hominem side-tweeting because you're too stubborn to accept you dont have a valid counterpoint. Do you actually have a contradiction or do you lack critical thinking??

@TirChonaillAbu @CorkGourmetGuy We both know our political systems more complex than that. Indexes that arise from the opinions of people who do not experience life in the country, isn't as accurate as info straight from the horses mouth. The number of spoiled votes in the recent election should tell you that
