Microfinance Firm Cherehani Africa on the Spot for Withholding Staff Dues A former employee of Cherehani Africa, a microfinance institution, has come forward alleging the company withheld his April salary after he resigned from his position late last month. The staff member, who joined the firm in October 2024 and exited on April 24th, 2025, claims he duly informed his immediate supervisor of his departure and returned all company property, only to be excluded from the month’s payroll. According to correspondence seen by this publication, the company’s HR department later informed him that his pay had been withheld on grounds that he did not serve a formal one-month notice. The former employee disputes this position, noting that he communicated his departure and acted in good faith, particularly after securing a more senior role at another microfinance institution. Efforts to follow up with the company’s CEO and finance department have reportedly gone unanswered. The former staffer says he is simply seeking fair compensation for the 23 days worked in April, calling the non-payment punitive and unjust. "Hi Nyakundi. Please keep me anonymous. Before leaving, I informed my immediate supervisor of my resignation and handed over all company assets as required. The company paid its staff on April 30th and May 1st but I wasn’t paid for the 23 days I worked in April. When I followed up with the HR department, I was told by the HR Manager, a lady called Gloria, that since I did not give a formal one-month notice, the company owes me nothing. This doesn’t sit right with me. I worked full days, often from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and carried out all my duties until my departure. I did not leave abruptly or under any disciplinary action. I communicated my decision to leave, and my supervisor even assured me I would be paid. To date, I have not received any response from the company CEO, whom I contacted directly. The HR and Finance departments have also gone silent. I have bills to pay, and withholding my dues feels punitive and unfair. All I want is to be paid for the days I worked."

They want to continue allocating 100+ billion to one region as other regions make do with CDF, NGAAF and other measly affirmative funds.
