#PT582 #RP Riley, take a look at this article, paired will the affect of muscles offsetting ground reaction forces, the joint loading actually encourages bone density increases which can offset OA. I think as we discussed in class it comes down to dosage. jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/…

#PT582 #KR I think a good deal of hesitation is in the perceived frailty of elderly patients and not treating them as having a say in their health. Participation and self efficacy in their care plan can motivate them to participate more. link.springer.com/article/10.216…

#PT582 #KB no doubt that plyometrics has a great affect on patients recovering from joint replacement but I hesitate with the usage of this with patients and their arthroplasties given the conversation in lab, it may come to a patient by patient basis nrcresearchpress.com/doi/abs/10.113…

#PT582 #KS thought not entirely in our scope of practice, I think it would be advisable at least to refer pts of necessity to a nutritionist, but this also lends toward interprofessional collaboration which i believe to be better for the patient! apta.org/PatientCare/Nu…

#PT582 #KC amputation is a very interesting dx to treat, and though not to your pt population, military personnel are near to my heart. I found an article that addresses rehab and core stabilization in pts with amputations you might find interesting! #divReadThis" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">healio.com/journals/ortho…

@codystormspt #PT582 #ML I completely agree. I'm interested in what you think we can do with things like aqua and neuro to entice them to engage.

#pt582 #AP I found this really neat article about the combination of aquatic therapy and land therapy for ACL reconstruction soccer players! Thought you might find it interesting :) says an accelerated aqua program can help! journals.co.za/content/m_sajs…

#pt582 #ks I personally have not experienced aquatic therapy but I did find this interesting book on training techniques in cardiac rehab and there's an entire chapter on aquatics! Might be a good resource. #v=onepage&q=cardiovascular%20rehab%20in%20aquatic&f=false" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">books.google.com/books?hl=en&lr…

@BarnetteKailey @NAUPT582 #PT582 #ML @BarnetteKailey I like the article! I agree, group therapy can be really helpful for patients to feel community and engagement when going through therapy! and its good for productivity so I'm all for it if the patients are safe enough to be in water with supervision

@PJThompson93 #PT582 I agree listening to the patient's values and expectations and proper communication will help engage them in rehab. How would you try to "sell" doing aquatic therapy to them if they're slightly unsure?

#PT582 #ML Listening to patient values/expectations (pillar of EBP) should help guide treatment. Also, empathy, clear communication, & pt edu may also help increase engagement to promote partnership in their rehabilitation.

#pt582 #KJ relaxing as we learned is very important for patients with chronic pain but this can be difficult in a busy OP environment. Perhaps patient education and mini session in a quiet room or maybe an after hours program by the clinic?? medicine.umich.edu/sites/default/…

#PT582 #RJ I believe that a multifaceted issue like chronic pain is best addressed from multiple disciplines and even more so when they work together. Here's the American Pain Society's approach for interdisciplinary work towards quality patient care: americanpainsociety.org/uploads/about/…

#pt582 #BR I think as we discussed, the type of tape and method used depends on what you want to accomplish. Rigidity vs flexible limits can have vastly different impact on biomechanics. This article shows the biomechanic pros to ankle taping! ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…

#pt582 #LG I think the manual aspect is pertinent to facilitating movement and we can make it functionally relevant and integrate ADLs (dressing, dishes etc) in the clinic with PNF patterns and teach how to do it at home to further the learning. link.springer.com/chapter/10.100…

#PT582 #MS Going back to an earlier discussion, I think if it creates some rapport with the patient because they believe it helps, it would be beneficial to do even for a short time in order to gain buy in from them to continue treatment in PT. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…

#PT582 #LT Going back to what we learned in Neuro, I found this really cool article that maps out what areas of the brain are utilized during the faster and slower phases of motor learning using fMRI! Really interesting stuff! ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…

#PT582 #KE I think as PTs we definitely can treat CV and mechanical LPB at the same time, just need to be cautious. Low impact aerobic exercise programs can train CV health and improve low back healing. livestrong.com/article/509609…
