What should be frightening every Nigerian is the proliferation of arms in the society. The government has been fighting the end result more than the crime nexus (the whole chain) in general. Porous border, black arms markets, illicit containers, corrupt police, immigration and custom officials that aid and abate etc. These are part of the fight against banditry and terrorism. There's a general cleanup that needs to be done.

Okpebholo tells Tinubu’s oppositions Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has accused opposition figures of sponsoring insecurity across the country in a bid to discredit President Bola Tinubu’s administration ahead of the 2027 elections. Speaking on Tuesday during the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for the local government council elections in Edo South Senatorial District, Okpebholo alleged that the recent rise in insecurity was politically motivated. “There is no vacancy in Aso Rock. What is happening today is the handiwork of the opposition,” the governor declared. He further alleged that those behind the insecurity were attempting to create chaos to weaken support for the President but insisted their efforts would fail. “They have failed. Have they not failed? Is it by k+dnapping children? Then who are you going to govern? There will be nobody for you to govern. So let them give us peace so that we can rule well,” he said. In a dramatic remark, Okpebholo added, “They can even k+dnap all of us, yes, there is no vacancy in Aso Rock.” The governor argued that promoting insecurity would not secure political positions for the perpetrators, stressing that neither Senate seats, House of Representatives positions nor the presidency could be won through v+olence and instability.
