The future of civilization will be controlled by distributing truth, information, technology, media & AI increasingly under control of govts, a few big tech corps & conglomerates who think customers, public & society are dumb & blind. Change is coming. A disruption is coming.

Today is my 61st birthday. When I was born, there was no such thing as a personal computer. Today, we can talk to our development system that is building code on a phone, which is really a supercomputer in our hands. I have the blessing of interviewing the founders of @BlackBoxAI, which brings a remarkable new way to build software (and it'll call you when it's done). I learned decades ago, while working at a programming magazine, that you should always pay attention to the developers and the builders. They are the only way that humanity gets better, and I've been blessed to be able to bring so many of them to you before most other people. If I had one wish, it would be to have humans stop resisting the future so much, because the future brings us so many benefits: 1. Self-driving cars that won't kill as many people as humans do 2. AI that can find new drugs and new materials 3. New ways of living that can make us a far better humanity We have been gifted remarkable new tools like @BlackboxAI that can help us build wondrous new things very quickly, but so many are resisting learning. Luckily, I'm surrounded by people who care about learning and care about taking humanity further. But while my numbers here are fairly impressive with 500,000+ followers, it is hardly even a small drop of the 8 billion people alive today. If I had one birthday wish that could be granted, it would be to see humanity argue a lot less and build a lot more. I've had an extraordinary life in trying to bring everyone to a better world. And yes, I realize that technology always has two sides to the coin: 1. One that's hugely positive 2. One that is hugely negative That's why we all need to get together and make sure it moves in the positive direction. But the answer isn't to stop. Autonomous cars will save millions of lives. And yes, the same technology will put a lot of people out of work. We need to figure it out, because saving lives is more important than work. And here we have tools that can help us do wondrous things, and it'll call you when it's done. What a time to be alive. By the way, you might not have an hour and 11 minutes to watch this video. We also have amazing new technology that can watch the video for you. Ask @Grok: "Hey, please tell me what I would learn by watching this video." (Click the grok button first). We have no excuses anymore to not build new things to help either yourself, or other human beings. So I hope to see billions of new builders soon improving our lives. And that's my birthday wish. To live to see the day when every human is building.

I love California. It's my home, and it's a wonderful state. But if you do this, you're going to see the Y Combinators, the Vardas, the Founders Inc., and the HFZeros leave. With them, they take many startups—a few employees each. You take away all their income and you move it to Texas. And what happens to all the people who work in restaurants that those people buy from? What happens throughout society? What happens to your state? My state? My God, this country has gone so anti-innovation; it's maddening.

Wasn't America founded on the principle of being free of the king? We threw his tea into the sea because he taxed us without representation. Isn't a wealth tax essentially a tax without any representation? Why, yes it is. Now, if they had offered the billionaires something in return—like a better ecosystem or government money going to robotics companies, similar to what is happening in China—then I'd say, "Take their 1%." But they're not saying that. They're just saying, "Let's take a good chunk of that billionaire's wealth away from them," wealth that he or she earned. I know a few women billionaires too; let's be honest about it. These people are the ones who hire the regular, everyday Joe and Jane. If these people leave, the jobs in my neighborhood go away. If the people in the neighborhood have to move to Austin because they have to follow the billionaires, they will. They've moved here from around the world; Silicon Valley has people from every country on earth. We imported all their smartest minds here, but if you think they're not willing to move—particularly away from a government that taxes them without representation—then I've got to move too.
Ro Khanna@RoKhanna

My district is $18 trillion, nearly 1/3 of US stock market in a 50 mile radius. We have 5 companies with a market cap over a trillion dollar companies. If I can stand up for a billionaire tax, this is not a hard position for 434 other members or 100 Senators. Those saying that we wouldn't have a future NVIDIA in the Bay if this tax goes into effect are glossing over Silicon Valley history. Jensen was at LSI Logic and his co-founders at Sun. He started NVIDIA in my district because of the semiconductor talent, Stanford, innovation networks, and venture funding. We have 37 times the VC money as Austin given the innovation ecosystem & Florida isn't even on the map. Jensen wasn't thinking I won't start this company because I may have to one day pay a 1 percent tax on my billions. He built here because the talent is here. AI was created with our tax dollars. ImageNet was created by Fei-Fei Li at Stanford using NSF money. This was a visual database. Hinton presented at an ImageNet conference his famous paper. The seminal innovation in tech is done by thousands often with public funds. NSF, DARPA, Stanford, Berkley, San Jose State, Santa Clara and the UCs are the foundation for what has made Silicon Valley a powerhouse. It's why we won 5 Nobel Prizes this year in the UC system. Yes, we need entrepreneurs to commercialize disruptive innovation. Stanford blazed a trail in licensing technology & partnering with the private sector. The university enabled companies like Google which began as a research project called BackRub, looking at back links to rank pages. And entrepreneurs like Brin & Page reap huge rewards when they succeed. But the idea that they would not start companies to make billions, or take advantage of an innovation cluster, if there is a 1-2 percent tax on their staggering wealth defies common sense and economic theory @paulkrugman @DAcemogluMIT @baselinescene. We cannot have a nation with extreme concentration of wealth in a few places but where 70 percent of Americans believe the American dream is dead and healthcare, childcare, housing, education is unaffordable. What will stifle American innovation, what will make us fall behind China, is if we see further political dysfunction and social unrest, if we fail to cultivate the talent in every American and in every city and town. The industrial revolution saw soaring inequality in Britain for nearly 60 years. On the continent, it lead to revolutions in France with worker uprisings (1848) and contributed to one in Russia (1917). America's central challenge is to make sure the AI revolution works for all of us, not just tech billionaires. So yes a billionaire tax is good for American innovation which depends on a strong and thriving American democracy.

I agree with @RoKhanna But I also agree with @Scobleizer concern not to make American entrepreneurs leave USA. But tbh I don’t know where the heck they will go. USA still has huge future with patriots who will protect it. So that’s why we should fix our policies & finances.

@Scobleizer Disagree - ethics needed in US/capitalism: $37T debt, affordability crisis, 30 yr wage stagnation, inflation, middle class tax payers fund $100Bs subsidies corporate welfare, tax breaks, incentives, tax cuts pay to top 0.1% over next 10 yrs~$4T printed +$1T cut from healthcare?

Latest podcast from @Gregory_C_Allen has an insane section on criminal activity at Meta. Internal docs leaked to Reuters show: • 10% of all Meta revenue comes from ads for scams & banned goods ($16B/year) • Meta estimates it's involved in 1/3 of all successful scams in the US • That suggests they drive $50B in scam losses for US consumers alone each year • Meta earns ~$3B annually from scam/banned goods ads run by Chinese operations alone The China case study: • In 2024, Meta made $18B+ from Chinese companies advertising to foreign consumers • Internal teams found ~19% was scams/banned content • An anti-fraud team successfully cut these ads in half • When Zuckerberg saw the revenue impact, he told them to "pause" and the team was disbanded • By mid-2025, banned ads climbed back to 16% of China revenue • This results in money being stolen and going directly from ordinary Americans to Chinese criminals The deliberate enabling: • Fraud earns 10% of all revenue, but anti-fraud teams were blocked from any action costing >0.15%, so they couldn't effectively do anything • Meta charged higher rates for suspected fraudulent ads — a "scam tax" • Their algorithm naturally identifies people vulnerable to frauds and feeds them more and more The cold calculation: • Meta anticipated up to $1B in regulatory fines for this • But they make $3.5B every 6 months from high-risk ads • They view these fines as just "cost of doing business" Senators Blumenthal & Hawley now calling for FTC/SEC investigations in a blistering letter, noting that all this happened while Meta cut safety staff and moved billions over to VR and AI. WTF.

APPLE BOOSTED CHATGPT, HID GROK... NOW THEY’RE GETTING SUED A judge just told Apple and OpenAI they can’t wiggle out of Elon’s lawsuit that says they’re basically cheating. Apple made ChatGPT the only AI built into iPhones, while Grok got left out like a kid not picked for dodgeball. Even worse? Apple allegedly boosts ChatGPT in the App Store while hiding Grok, even though Grok ranks higher. Shady much? Now the court says: let’s see the receipts. Things are about to get interesting.
