@joshwgoodson The win 5-6 quad 1 part may be an exaggeration, but this is a loss that forces you to have to win more big games. This is what happened to Clemson a few years ago

@RoyHobbsMB @joshwgoodson Here’s a not so secret reason TV ratings are still strong: sports betting. Ask any college age young man why they watch sports now. It ain’t because they have passion for the team…money is ruining it all I’m afraid. This sports betting at their fingertips will cost families.

@joshwgoodson I did not know a single player on Tech, Wake, BC, Fla State, or UVA. I used to know virtually every starter in the ACC Watching college basketball now is like scrolling this App. Will only change if TV revenue falls off a cliff which is doubtful, says old dude yelling at clouds.

I won’t get into passion or lack thereof personally.
BUT I do think it’s insanely hard to put together rosters every year and have any idea if it will click or not.
It’s why we can see such volatile swings year to year even at programs with presumed great coaches, etc

@joshwgoodson Team doesn’t suck. But one year players chasing bags of money does suck. And you can’t tell me that doesn’t’ impact passion by the players themselves and fans. Some of these guys play like they don’t care too much about the jersey they are playing for. Wonder why…?

Technically Q2 for State today.
However a win could drop FSU to close to Q3 land.
Win today just helps continue the clean sheet on the back end of the resume.
As of now state is a tourney team.
If continue clean in Q3/Q4, and add a few Q1/2 back half of sked will be fine

I was flying Southwest from Dallas to New York. Three rows ahead of me, there was a young soldier in uniform. He looked barely 18. He was staring straight ahead, gripping the armrests. He looked nervous. When the drink cart came around, the flight attendant asked him what he wanted. 'Coke, please,' he said. 'Heading home?' she asked kindly. 'No, ma'am,' he said. 'Deploying. First time.' The whole row went quiet. The flight attendant didn't say a word. she handed him his Coke. Then, she got on the PA system. 'Ladies and gentlemen, we have a very special guest in Row 8 today. Private Miller is on his first deployment to serve our country. Since I can't buy him a drink, I’m going to ask a favor. If you want to write him a note of encouragement, pass it forward.' I grabbed a napkin. I wrote: 'You got this. Stay safe. - A dad from Row 12.' I watched as napkins traveled up the aisle. Napkins, receipts, pages torn from books. By the time we landed, the soldier had a pile of paper on his tray table three inches high. He stood up to get his bag, and he was wiping his eyes. He carefully packed every single scrap of paper into his rucksack. 'Thank you,' he told the flight attendant. 'No,' she said. 'Thank you.' We all walked off that plane a little quieter, reminded that freedom is just a word until you meet the kid who is defending it.

I am sure there is a way but it takes real leadership. Schools and conferences may need to organize and then “lock out” players. I am sure there are many steps and roadblocks to get there but an ecosystem that gives all the power to the players and unlimited Free agency every year is a disaster.

Nailed it. Trust the process. The guy knows what he’s doing but it doesn’t mean instant success.
I suspect they will figure out the issue with the roster construction and learn from it.

Here's where I'm at on fan reactions to MBB. Look, I've sat through Sendek, Lowe, Gott, and KK. All had some success and failures. Because of this background, we started saying things like "NC State ain't for soft people". Landing WW and somehow clutching our pearls after a bad loss in year 1 is the OPPOSITE of "NC State ain't for soft people". You know what it sounds like? Tar Heel fans. Now, you can scream "but he picked the roster" or "we paid more money", but that STILL doesnt translate into instant success on day 1. WW is 15 games in. I mean, yeah, you should be pissed that we got blown out... I am too... but it may shock you to learn that IT IS POSSIBLE to be pissed at a loss WITHOUT using it as some kind of indictment about the coach's career especially when you dont really have any data points to go off of. If we're having this conversation after a couple years, it'll be a totally different discussion. For now, some things aren't going right. For that fans can justifiably be pissed. However, if you took Wade's bravado and assumed that meant a promise of a title in the first year, that's on you. I assume you're also the guy at the bar who assumes the waitress wants to sleep with you just because she shot you a smile...

Got away with it against Wake Forest. Not gonna get away with it today against Virginia.
