On 23 June 2026, Britain marks ten years since the Brexit referendum. We were promised £350 million a week for the NHS. We were promised the easiest trade deals in history. We were promised sunlit uplands. Research now shows the economy is 6-8% smaller, business investment fell 18% and 63% of us would vote to rejoin.

The deputy leader of Reform UK, Richard Tice, owns a property company - Quidnet REIT. From 2020 to 2022 it paid Tice and his trust £600k in dividends. Quidnet should have paid £120k of tax on those dividends. It didn't. A 🧵 with evidence from the company's own filings:

Spitfire90 flights 1 and 2 have been a huge success! ‘K5054’ has flown alongside various @RoyalAirForce assets so far, including the F35 Lightning II (@RAF_Marham), the Phenom T1 (RAF Cranwell), the @rafredarrows (@RAFWaddington) and of course our very own Spitfire and Dakota.

🚨STARMER FLIES TO THE GULF TO AVOID PMQs Yet again, ‘Never Here Keir’ is departing the UK to support the ceasefire in Iran. He refuses to face the music in the Commons time and time again. If only his departure today was permanent…

@jonburkeUK Apart from when it's cloudy, which is hardly ever in the UK 😂 Probs need to do something about the 20 million plus gas boilers as well. And the myriad of other uses we still have for hydrocarbons, but sure. Keep tweeting eco warrior.

At this very moment, solar is providing almost 40% of Britain’s electricity - allowing us to obtain almost 70% of our electricity from zero carbon sources. As soon as we get panels on every roof and a battery in every house, fossil fuels are done. That’s why they’re squealing.

@jonburkeUK 20kwh by 1600 from my 10 panels. Getting a power wall 3 battery shortly. Every house should get solar & batteries. Has someone worked the numbers out for the UK? Schools hospitals car parks etc.

🚨Tucker Carlson just went off on Trump on Easter morning. The full statement: “No decent person mocks other people’s religions. You mock other people’s faith — you mock the idea of faith itself. We are not God. Only if you think you are do you talk this way.” “This is not a mockery of Islam. This is a mockery of Christianity. To send a tweet with the F word on Easter morning promising the murder of civilians and then saying ‘praise be to Allah’ — you are mocking every other Christian and me.” “That is evil. That is an intentional desecration of beauty and truth — which is the definition of evil.”

@bbqbobs @TheAthleticFC Quite agree! Tottenham trust can get offended as they did when we played a game at MK stadium. We r desperate to survive in 7 cup finals . Forget all external issues & support the team. Trust doesn't represent me .

@ColbyBadhwar The future system should be Europe wide. Ukrainian expertise & capacity. Multi threats from mass drone attacks. Big stick response from Europe with plenty of home grown massive drones . UK/French nuclear ultimate response.

Good thread on how there are no cheap & easy solutions to ballistic missile defense, especially when we're talking about homeland defense against IRBMs & ICBMs. If the UK wants this capability more quickly, they should procure SM-3 IIA. Developing their own exoatmospheric interceptor is far beyond their financial means and would take many years.

This is frustrating. This would not be a 'quick win', nor would it actually bring much value to UK homeland defence. I explain my reasoning in this thread, as well as some details on the purpose of this specific system within the MISC.

@nicholadrummond Can't disagree. However, £20 billion a year for Ukraine might just finish Putin off permanently. Then we could have a proper SDR, along with a new European defence organisation, along with aligned armed forces ( including the Ukraine) . Post trump world.

I am worried about the Defence Investment Plan not being published. The longer we delay it, the greater the risk that the 2025 Strategic Defence Review will be out of date. To make matters worse, the current hiatus means that we will initiate fewer new defence projects between now and 2027 than we did in previous years. We also have many alarming capability gaps that are creating a programme backlog. And DE&S simply doesn’t have the resources to staff them, so this will further delay recapitalisation. Inaction at a time when the geopolitical situation is more unpredictable, dangerous and volatile than it has been since the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 makes us look weak to adversaries and allies alike. It is not that we are about to be attacked, but weakness invites aggression. I urge the Prime Minister to make defence a higher priority. In John Healey, he has an incredibly able and conscientious defence secretary who fully understands what needs to be done. By my calculations, UK Defence needs an extra £100 billion over the next decade, or a further £10 billion a year. This divides into an extra £20 billion for each service, £20 billion for a BMD, and a £20 billion contingency. The defence budget is forecast to rise from £62.2 billion in 2025/ 2026 to £75.5 billion in 2027/ 2028, so these numbers are achievable. Given the long lead-times for manufacturing new equipment, we simply need to accelerate the uplift.

This would be more valid if Bodyshop and Ted Baker hadn’t gone into administration before Labour came in and Carpetright just 19 days after… I haven’t checked the rest but… really? It is tough and will get tougher but a bit of balance here… the ONS is a good source of accurate facts…

The changes are small at first, almost petty but they eat away at British tradition and culture but by bit. Starmer’s EU reset means we can no longer simply call it “marmalade,” because the EU uses the same word for some of their jams. The U.K. must now comply and label it as “citrus marmalade.” All this, even though Britain consumes the most per capita and is credited with inventing the traditional orange recipe.

The issue with Spurs isn’t just the managers. It’s the repeated mistakes over the past three years. De Zerbi now has to steady that quickly. Seven games isn’t much time, so expectations should be realistic. It might not change much, but it will certainly be interesting to watch.
