@FlowGo37 Arizona is dominated by youth soccer and baseball. Add in the rise of flag football, we aren’t getting the athletes or participation numbers
English

@FlowGo37 Youth is down 25% from last year and from what I heard was down 33% the year prior
The state (including me) overly focused on HS and not youth
Lack of lacrosse players/coaches invested in next generation
Accessibility to fields…rec + travel teams practice in baseball fields

Youth numbers are awful in Arizona…
I’ll be shocked if we have a HS league in 3-5 years

There are less than 200 boys lacrosse players in all of Orange County at the 5th & 6th grade levels combined. Less than 150 at the 3rd & 4th grade levels combined. Yet we have multiple clubs holding ‘elite’ & ‘select’ tryouts at these individual grad years. Lol.

This is a real problem.
You cannot coach a kid who is 1 foot out the door playing with different teams and at showcases every weekend.
If you challenge them and make them uncomfortable, it’s too easy to leave for the next team.
It’s bad.

I keep hearing stories of elite club directors threatening families for guest playing with other premium clubs.
The sooner parents and players understand that every family at these premium clubs falls into one of two categories, the sooner they stop making emotional decisions and start making smart ones.
Category 1: You are genuinely irreplaceable. The club sees you as essential to their brand. They’ll say “no guest playing” or “you’re fully committed or you’re out,” but it’s a bluff you can call. They can’t afford to lose you. If they’re dumb enough to cut you out of spite, clubs of equal or higher status will take you tomorrow. You hold the power.
Category 2: You are revenue. You’re paying the same fees and wearing the same uniform, but you’re not viewed as elite. You’re subsidizing the business, staff and the high priority players. The moment you question anything—playing time, guest playing, advocacy—the threats start. You’re replaceable the same day.
Most families are in Category 2 and never admit it. They keep paying to fund someone else’s highlight reel.
The fix is simple: figure out which category you’re really in.
If you’re Category 1, use your leverage wisely.
If you’re Category 2, staying and paying premium prices will usually lead you down a road of disappointment and frustration.
Know your worth. Act accordingly.
